Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is this 1964 Chevrolet Impala SS 409. It is a project car but is a true SS 409 with a clear title. The vin is41447S173132. The breakdown is as follows: The first 4 indicates 1964. The 14 indicates it is an Impala SS with an 8 cylinder engine. ( in this time period Chevrolet only indicated that it was a 6 or 8 cylinder engine, It does have the larger 3/8 fuel line which was used on the 409's). The 47 indicates it was a Sport Coupe The S indicates that it was built in the St. Louis plant. The last 6 digits indicates the sequence number. The car had the 340 horse 409 with an automatic transmission. Both of these items are gone. (see my other auctions for a rebuildable 340 horse 409 engine). The car as you can see is white and had a black interior. Both front buckets seats and the rear seat is missing. The car was last licensed in Iowa in 1986. So it was the road for 22 years and has been sitting for the last 24 years. The first 22 years were pretty tough on the old girl as the rear frame from the rear wheel back is badly rusted, as are most of these in these years and will need to be rebuilt. The truck floor is rusted and the floor pans will need patching. There is body putty on the side here and there. On the good side, all the SS 409 exterior trim is there. The right front fender spear is off the car but is included. The interior has the carpet, door panels and the side of the rear seat panels. All of the glass is good, the right door glass has a broken track but the glass is good and is there. Both front and rear bumpers are is good shape. The aluminum panel in the rear is half gone but those are available. All of the engine turned side and rear trim is there. That trim is being reproduced but is not quite like these originals. This was a no power steering and no power brakes car and still is. The grill has some damage but could be straightened. Tail lights are all there as well. This car could be rebuilt or used for parts. Check my other auctions to look at the project 340 horse 409 engine I have listed as well which would go nice with this car. I will not sell outside the United States. Low opening bid and very reasonable reserve. Thanks for looking! On Nov-07-12 at 23:40:20 PST, seller added the following information: Had a prospective bidder come to look at the car today. We put it up on a hoist and looked it over pretty good. The fuel line comes up the right side and under the top A-frame which I think is right for a 409. The lines is 3/8 inch where it comes from the tank and 3/8 in the front of the car. There is a section of gas line about 4 feet long under the center of the car that appears to have been replaced. That section is 5/16 line and is connected to the 3/8 line with short pieces of rubber hose and clamps. Looks like there may have been a rust or damage problem in that area. I still think it was a 409 car, as the previous owner stated it was and the the trim pieces that are present support that. The floor pans are actually a little better than I thought they were but there is more rust and rot under the rocker panels than I thought. I am doing my best to honestly describe this car. If you have more questions, ask and I will do my best to answer them and post the questions and answers for all to see. Thanks for your interest. Roger
