Vehicle Detail
Peerless and Warwick cars were made is Slough, England from 1958 through 1962. A complete history can be found on the Peerless-Warwick Registry site. Approximately 325 Phase 1, Phase II, Warwick and V8 cars were made. This car is a Phase 1, left hand drive version. 71 left hand drive cars were made. #155 was sold new in Chicago and has lived in the region its whole life. I suspect the mileage is actually 114,900 miles. In 1968 #155 was sold to the second owner, taken off the road had stored in a field. I have a clear title in the second owner's name. In 1999 the third owner rescued the car and started to strip it. The body was mounted on a TR6 chassis, where it sits today. Fortunately only some inner panels were modified and can easily be put back to original. The original complete chassis was saved. The project was never completed. I bought the car a year ago intending to restore it when I retire, which is coming up shortly. Unfortunately I'm not young and have significant arthritis, so it is better to pass this rare car on to someone who has the stamina and the time to undertake an interesting restoration. The car is more than 90% complete. It is lacking the driver's side window, all of the gaskets, the grill, the front bumpers and has a cracked windshield. There is no interior and no seat frames. The frame is very rusty and needs to be replaced. Fortunately, replacement frames are available through the Peerless-Warwich club in England. Replacement fiberglass parts, including the missing grill and front bumpers are also available as is the windshield. The engine is frozen and will need a complete rebuild. It is complete, but the generator is missing. The transmission was apparently overhauled shortly before the car was taken off the road. It appears to shift, but it should be refreshed. The overdrive probably needs new solenoids. The interesting leaf-spring DeDion rear axle is all there and looks fine. The differential needs new seals. The fuel pumps and brakes will need to be rebuilt. I have the complete steering column including the original Lester steering wheel and a new horn/turn signal hub. I also have a new overdrive switch, new bonnet hinges and a new shift knob. The body has one large crack in the right front fender and the "A" pillars are broken at the top and bottom (very common). The rest of the body needs a lot of detail fiberglass work. Fortunately, most of the original paint has been removed. All the lights are present. The headlights are OK, but for the rest new ones should be purchased. It would be cheaper than trying to fix what's there. They are all available. The car was originally white with black interior, of which only a few scraps remain. It was repainted red at one point. I have three different TR3 manuals that go with the car, plus a reprint of the original owners manual and a reproduction commission plate that is not yet stamped (The original went missing). In summary, this is a good project but will take a lot of time and energy. Almost all parts are readily available and there is plenty of help available from Geoff Hacker at "Forgotten Fiberglass" and Nigel Cluley at the Peerless-Warwich Register. This is a no reserve auction. If someone bids one dollar over the opening price and that's the only bid, that person gets the car. There is no "Buy it Now, so don't ask. If you want it, bid accordingly. This car can be seen by appointment in Gurnee, IL. Shipping will require shipping the body and frame separately - like two cars, plus boxes of parts. I leave that to the buyer, but I will help load. A $1000 deposit it due within 48 hours by PayPal. The remainder can be sent to me by Certified Bank Check or PayPal. If you are close by, cash will work too. I will be happy to talk to any potential buyer. Send me a message with your phone number and I'll call you back. Look carefully at the pictures. Ask lots of questions.
