Vehicle Detail

This is an exceptionally clean 1899 Mondial T Cabriolet with the 3.4 litre engine with 4 valves per cylinder (same engine as used in the 348!) . The T model is a substantial improvement over all other prior Mondials (see history below). The paint is completely original without any spray touch up whatsoever. It shines perfectly in any light. The undercarriage is free of rust and extremely clean. The red leather interior is in excellent condition. The dash is in excellent condition. The right side window goes up and down but slower than the left side window. The vehicle has a Pioneer stereo with AM/FM CD Ipod and Satellite Radio capable with dual amps, high end tweeters and subwoofer. It has been professionally installed and I would guess cost over $2000. The top is in exception shape with a nail head size worn spot blemish directly on top of a folding part (see pics below). The window is substantially clear and free of defects other than fold and minor scuff marks from being stored. The car come with a custom red car cover. Mechanically, the car is near perfect. The engine fires on command and runs smooth. There are no leaking fluids anyplace. The clutch operates as new without any signs of slipping. The air conditioning system compressor was rebuilt in 2010 by a Ferrari dealer and blows cold. Everything on the car works as it should. The transaxle appears in perfect condition and the vehicles shifts perfectly in all gears. The car has matching tires in good shape mounted on polished Speedline wheels. Speedlines were a factory option on many Ferraris. These wheels were in excess of $6000 as an option. All of the tools are with the car and appear in the picture. A very rare red leather zippered factory case is included. This is the case the owner’s manuals were delivered in. Both of the original keys are included. The car has an aftermarket stainless exhaust made by X-OS, the premier Italian manufacturer of aftermarket Ferrari exhaust systems and based within a few miles of the Ferrari factory in Maranello. The exhaust sounds fabulous and would cost in excess of $2000. Although I am doing my best describing this car, please keep in mind that no used vehicle is perfect, expect some normal cosmetic and mechanical wear. History of the Mondial: The final Mondial evolution was the Mondial T which was first offered in 1989 in both a coupe and cabriolet. It was a substantially changed model, "spearhead of a new generation of V8 Ferraris", according to Road & Track magazine. The 'T' called attention to the car's new engine/transmission layout: the previously-transverse engine was now mounted longitudinally whilst the gearbox remained transverse, thus forming a 'T'. By adopting this layout, a longer engine could be mounted lower in the chassis, improving handling dramatically. The 'T' configuration would be the standard for the marque's future mid-engine V8 cars, beginning with the Ferrari 348, introduced later in the year. The new layout saw the engine and transmission mounted on a removable sub frame; the assembly could be removed through the underside of the vehicle for maintenance. This allowed for substantially easier maintenance including timing belt replacement etc. Additionally because the clutch was now located at the rear of the drive train making clutch replacement and service a simple proposition. The engine was up to 3.4 L (3405 cc) and 300 hp (224 kW). The engine was now controlled by Bosch Motronic DME 2.5 (later DME 2.7) electronic engine management that integrated EFI and ignition control into a single computer unit. Two of these were used in the car: one for each bank of the engine. Engine lubrication was upgraded to a dry-sump system. The "T" proved to be a substantial upgrade to the Mondial line and also featured power assisted steering for the first time and had standard ABS brakes. The car was lighter than all prior Mondials. On Oct-29-12 at 09:06:30 PDT, seller added the following information: We have many of the service records for the car since new. The records show that the Mondial had a timing belt replaced at 8230 miles. The AC compressor was rebuilt less than a few thousand miles ago also. On Nov-03-12 at 19:47:46 PDT, seller added the following information: We also have the original set of wheels with good tires on them available for an additional $1000 at end of auction.
