Vehicle Detail

For Sale 1971 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Convertible. I bought this car as a project 4 years ago and finished it 3 years ago. My family and I have enjoyed it for the past 4 summers and it is time to move onto the next project. I bought it locally from a private party in the condition seen in the first picture. This car intrigued me because it came with a lot of restoration parts and was already started by previous owners. The front fenders and rear quarters are replaced with NEW factory metal. The hood, doors and trunk lid are all from solid donors and may or may not be original to the car. BODY AND PAINT There was very little filler needed to straighten the panels of door dings only. It was stripped to bare metal and epoxy primed to seal the surface from moisture. Any straightening was put over the epoxy then primed with high build surfacer. Block sanded twice and sealed before paint. The paint on this car is spectacular but not without some flaws if you look close enough. The car was originally red and now painted in an era correct factory color of Firemist (metallic) Agean aqua. The 442 stripes are painted on and under the clear. They are the exact width and position as a 1971 442. We used the factory build manual for the specs. The top is relatively new and works well. We drive this as a convertible so it shows wear and wrinkles from being down the majority of the time. This paint and body work was done right and will not disappoint. Look at the pictures and ask questions. MECHANICALS The car had 99,980 mile on it when I drove it home. I pulled the 350 rocket engine and had it built as a new W31. The modifications include. .030 oversized pistons. 9:1 compression, W31 spec cam, Hardened valve seats. Crank was polished with standard sized journals. It has an Edelbrock performer intake and Edelbrock 4 barrel Carb. Pertronix electronic ignition. The motor runs strong and now has about 12000 miles on it. It is the standard TH 350 transmission that works and shifts well. I resealed it 2 years ago and doesn’t leak. The rear end is the standard 10 bolt with 2.65:1 ratio. On a 2800 mile road trip we saw about 16 mpg. This was on my list to upgrade but the car works so well I left this on the list for the next owner. Front end has been renewed where needed. Upper and lower ball joints are new, some control arm bushings are new. Rear shocks replaced during restoration. Dual exhaust was added to the factory manifolds. 2.5 inch aluminized pipes and Magnaflow mufflers flow well and sound fantastic without being so loud you can’t think. Tires are BF Goodrich Radial TA’s the rears were put on new about 4000 miles ago. The size is 245/60R14 on the factory wheels with beauty rings. INTERIOR Here is where the pile of parts come it. The car was originally a bench seat column shift car. It has been converted to console/Bucket seats with a factory floor shift. The column was replaced so the shifter stalk was removed. The front and rear seats came with the car and are in great condition. The black carpet was replaced with new during restoration. The door panels were reconditioned and match the seats perfectly. Stainless steel cup holders in the rear arm rests. I added a stereo and speakers to the car with a usb port for your music. It is all new and matched Pioneer equipment including head unit, speakers, amp and 10” sub. It will startle people and the stop light if you care to. The car has functional A/C that has been converted to R134a Freon. I added the safety gauges in the dash so you have water temp and oil pressure info when needed. I bought the Top boot from Year One and it fits well. GENERAL We have used this car on 2 family road trips starting from Green Bay WI. First was a 4 day driving trip up the western shore of Michigan to Mackinac Island and back down the UP and Wisconsin shore. The Second was a ten day trip to Washington DC and back. NO mechanical issues with the car and I tell this story to drive home my confidence in the car. This car will stand out at your local show and shine or weekly cruise night. The color is era correct and not just a passing fancy popular color. Too many restorers do great work but paint in a modern candy or pearl color to lose the factory look. This car gives you the best of both worlds with laser strait body work and a color that fits the car and era. I custom built a receiver hitch that was used to tow our 17 foot 1966 boat. It is a bolt on design and removable if desired. I have had several cars and have a 4-5 year interest level. I sold a 911 turbo while I owned this car and am going back to a sports car when this one is gone. It is the journey I enjoy and love to drive these cars for a while. My kids will have grown up knowing how to work on, drive and care for these pieces of history. Although my friends questioned why I bought this car, after driving in it over the past 4 years are questioning why I would sell it. PHOTOS The photos I have posted were taken Oct 20 2012. They tell their own story. They show the 442 livery and the quality of the work I. Being a perfectionist the car is not perfect. However it is a high quality driver that you can use every day or shown with confinece if desired. I also have many photos of the restoration and all of the receipts for the parts I bought for the car. All of this comes with the car including the manuals I have. PRICE This is a great car and the amount of work you don’t have to do is worth the realistic price of $18,500. Come to me with realistic offers but don’t waste my time. I have pictures of the entire process so ask and you will see. Thanks for looking. Kevin contact me at 920 737-911eight. or krogers@new.rr.com
