Vehicle Detail
After long thought, I have decided to sell my 1980 FJ40 (Dec 1979 production). I bought this truck as a mild restoration project and trail rig in July of this year. It had rust on the tub, but had a very solid frame and was well maintained which is why I bought it. It passed emissions on 8/21/2012 with no issues at all and has all of the smog stuff intact and operational. It also has a new Old Man Emu full suspension and new BFG mud terrains. All has less than 600 miles on it. Service records date back from 1983 to present. The truck turns heads and is a real tough looking rig, but has an intermittent idling issue. Sometimes she idles very smoothly, and sometimes she idles really rough. As I said, the issue is intermittent, so most likely it is an emissions system issue (EGR or VSV), but I have not had time to run it down. Ebay policy will not let me post a link, but I have a YouTube video of the engine running if you want to message me with an email address and I will send it to you. I can also take other pictures or videos if needed. I cut out and bonded the outside areas on the tub that had bad rust and coated the inside rusted tub areas with Eastwood Rust Encapsulator prior to paint. The rear quarters were the worst areas, so I bought new Aqualu corners from Canada and Dupont chemical etched them prior to riveting them on and repainting the entire truck. The body is far from perfect. Some of this rust was severe. Not a show truck by any means, but is a solid FJ40 with matching numbers, service history, and would make a great true restoration on a late-model FJ40. Other than the idle, the truck drives very nice down the highway and has a very strong motor. THE GOOD: · BFG T/A Mud Terrains with ~ 600 miles on them · Old Man Emu full suspension lift with ~ 600 miles on it · Carburetor rebuilt in September 2012 with OEM idle cutoff solenoid installed · New OEM fuel pump October 2012 · New OEM clutch slave cylinder October 2012 · New JT Outfitters front winch bumper (built for a Warn 8274) · Service records since 1983 · New air filters August 2012 · New NGK plugs August 2012 · New OEM cap/rotor/plug wires August 2012 · New OEM fuel filter September 2012 · New paint August 2012 (Dupont single-stage ($$$), painted back to original Toyota 031 color per the data plate) · Passed emissions 8/21/2012 with no issues (certification in hand) · All OEM smog equipment intact and working · Clear title THE NOT AS GOOD: · Tub has plenty of bondo · E-brake needs adjustment · Driver’s side floor board is riveted in · Idle is hit-or-miss · Dash and seats are cracked/worn I’d also be open to trading for a clean 80 or 62 Series with under 180K miles. The 2” CCOT receiver hitch is not included. Please do not bid if you do not have the cash. I am a good communicator, so please email if you have any questions. On Oct-24-12 at 09:26:58 PDT, seller added the following information: **Edit: I've had a lot of questions asking about restoration details (i.e. headliner missing, condition of floor mats and seats, scratches, etc.). I just want to make sure that all bidders are clear that this is NOT a concours restoration. I bought it as a trail truck and weekend driver. It has lots of imperfections and a rough idle at times. I don't want either of us to get surprised at the end of auction. With that said, it is a great rig and gets a lot of attention everywhere I go.
