Vehicle Detail
In 1979 the Datsun B210 5-Speed Hatchback was the most fuel efficient vehicle sold in the United States. According to published ads from that year it got an astounding 35 miles to the gallon in town and 47 MPG on the highway. That’s almost Toyota Prius mileage out of a 30 year old rear wheel drive classic with air conditioning! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5YuV1hHzISI Check out the above youtube video of an identical B210 fuel mileage ad from 1979. I am selling this beautiful one owner Datsun B210 hatchback that is identical to the car used in Datsun's fuel efficiency campaign adds of 1979. This survivor is a one owner car that has an indicated 51,800 miles on the odometer. Judging by the condition of the car and the stack of receipts that accompanies it I feel that this is the correct mileage. The car was purchased new at Sunrise Datsun on 07/16/1979 for $6,220.10. The car spent its entire life here in Florida and was stored in a garage under a car cover. Surprisingly this incredible car was traded into the local Nissan dealership earlier this year. I bought the car from Mike Shad Nissan when they sold it at a local auction. It is kind of sad that they would not keep or utilize this piece of their heritage. Included with the sale is a booklet full of receipts, and all of the original paperwork from the sale of the car including the window sticker and EPA paperwork. The car even has the card of the salesman who sold it that fateful day in 1979. The receipts mentioned span the cars 33 year existence and document its service history. Surprisingly enough the car has a current oil change that was performed at the dealer. I am sure the newer techs were chagrinned to change the oil in something that wasn't an Altima or a Maxima. The car is in great condition, and all of the options actually work as they should. The factory AM/FM cassette player works great and none of the speakers are blown. The original A/C system was converted to R134 and a newer style compressor was installed. The A/C comes on instantly and blows cold. The heater works as it should as does the turn signals and all of the lights. The exterior of the car is in great shape. There is no rust on the car that I can find. This can probably be attributed to the vehicles garage storage, southern location, and an owner who cared for it. The paint on the car is not original, but it is the original color. I found a receipt in the cars records that indicated it was repainted in 1992. The paint still looks great and shines very nicely. There are a few spots that are not perfect as one would expect with a 20 year old paint job. On the roof of the car there are several uniform scratches as if a rake was dropped on the paint. I took two pictures of this for you so you can see for yourself. The rear hatch area has some paint that is “dry”. This paint is near the rubber seal for the hatch glass and I am guessing can be attributed a unique 70’s styling option that is rarely seen today. The car use to have “Louvers” over the rear window, which made it difficult to clean and wax the paint underneath. I took a picture of this area of the hatch for your viewing pleasure. The car has a few small dings and paint chips which I took pictures of as well. As with any eBay ad please look at all of the pictures carefully. Don’t let my description turn you off of the vehicle. The paint and exterior of this car are in incredible shape and I am just being overly picky. I will let the picture speak for themselves. Here are the blemishes I mentioned in the earlier paragraph. Notice the missing lock for the gas lid. I don’t know where it went, I hope you live in a neighborhood with out vandals. The car has the factory 13 inch steel wheels and hubcaps. All of the hubcaps are in fine shape as are the tires. The engine in the car is the stock 1.4 Liter inline 4 cylinder. It makes a whopping 65 horsepower and is the reason this car is so fuel efficient. It runs like a top and as smooth as can be. I took the valve cover off and the top of the engine is very clean and free of sludge. Even without the receipts I could immediately tell that this car has had its oil changed regularly. The motor runs quietly and starts immediately. There are no obvious oil leaks and the engine does not smoke or feel down on power. There are no signs of accidents or body repair on the car. All of the body panels and glass on the car are OEM and line up like they should. Now onto the best part of the car, the interior. I was astounded when I first looked inside this vehicle. The interior is literally a time capsule back to 1979. The seats are in perfect shape as is every interior panel. The carpets are clean and stain free. There are no weird odors and the previous owners did not smoke. The car has the factory Datsun floor mats still and they are in great shape. The driver’s floor mat has some wear from the heels of the driver but is in great shape other than that. The headliner is in perfect shape and is stain free. About the only thing that I can think of with the interior that is not working or isn’t perfect is the rear hatch struts. The hatch lid will not stay up on its own. I am including a custom made stick to prop the hatch open with. The replacement struts for the hatch are approximately $20.00 each at the local auto parts store if you don’t want to utilize your free stick. Again I will let the pictures do the talking because they will convey the cars condition better than my ramblings. This car drives better then it looks. The brakes don’t pulsate or pull and it tracks straight down the road. I am pretty positive that you could drive it anywhere. I drove it the other day on the highway and it keeps up with traffic fine. The 5th gear is kind of long but I was able to maintain 65 with out issue. If you have any questions please contact me and I will do my best to answer them for you. I can be reached through eBay or on my cell phone at (904) 465-0458. The car is available for viewing in Jacksonville Florida. If you would like to look at it before bidding let me know and we can arrange for you to see it. If you need any additional photographs or anything else let me know and I will try to accommodate you. I have already taken 60 pictures of it so whats a few more right. Good luck bidding and I hope the car goes to someone who will appreciate and cherish it. First of all I took an additional 47 pictures of the undercarriage of the car and of the rocker panels. I don’t have a lift at my house unfortunately so I did the best I could with a jack. I hope the pictures will help. Before I get to that I would like to let everyone know that I had a chance to look at the title for the car and it is the original one issued in 1979! It even had the lein payoff signed off in 1983. I had never seen one that style before, because as one would imagine they are pretty rare nowadays. Attached to the title is a copy of the death certificate for the previous owner. That explains how this car ended up at the Nissan dealership. I am assuming that when the owner died his family did not know what to do with the car and sold it to the dealer. The owner was born in 1930 so he owned the car from his late 40’s until his death in his 80’s. Now on to the pictures. These are from under the drivers side. These pictures are from the underside of the passenger side. I also took two pictures of some paint blemishes that were not clear in the earlier round of pictures. The first one is of some slight cracking in the paint on the driver’s side rear sail panel / “d” pillar. I am just being picky but I wanted to document it. The second picture is on the rear hatch and is from a piece of the louver rubbing the paint. I took some pictures of the rocker panels at the request of one of the emails I received. All of them are solid as can be except for the front passenger fender. I never noticed this spot until I jacked the car up to take pictures of the under carriage. It is confined to the fender and is on the lower portion to the underside of the actual fender. You can plainly see it in the picture. It some of the other pictures there is some dark spots on the lower panels. They are not rust only some dirt. There is also one area of surface rust by the rear taillight trim. It is very minor and I took a picture of it for your viewing pleasure. The car looks great as does the undercarriage. I am sorry about not catching the passenger fender now, but I wanted to be as upfront as possible which is why I took 111 pictures of the car.
