Vehicle Detail

1968 Porsche 912 Coupe Ossi Blue San Francisco, CA 415-205-0716 sales@carplanet.com 1968 Porsche 912 Coupe This NO RESERVE auction is for a recently restored desirable short wheelbase 1968 Porsche 912 Coupe in attractive Ossi Blue. Rust free CA black plate car. Very nice 15" x 6" Fuchs Alloys with excellent tires. 5 speed. Low miles on full repaint and new brakes. Approximately 2000 miles on complete and documented engine rebuild. An excellent driver. The following is a detailed description of the car, along with over 150 photos and 3 videos. iPad and iPhone viewers can access photos by clicking HERE. Please email or call us at 415-205-0716, if you have any questions. Photos and Videos Body, Trim and Paint Having resided in California since sold new in 1968, the body remains in rust free condition. Hood, driver door and deck lid all close nicely with good gaps. Passenger door open and closes fine, but could use some adjustment to get rear edge flush with body. The underside appears to be original, except for one small patch at the front passenger floor. There is also a scrape on the driver side section of the floors. All trim parts are in good condition. Weatherstripping was replaced three years ago. All glass is in good condition. Headlight glass and front and rear light lenses show no cracks. All chrome parts show good shine with some pitting on the original chrome horn grilles. Rocker deco trim pieces are not installed, but will be included. Though the original color was of this 912 was Sand Beige (color code 6807), a full repaint in the more attractive Ossi Blue (a factory correct color for a 1968 912) was completed in 2009. The repaint remains in very good condition with only a few minor blemishes and with body trim showing no evidence of overspray. Interior The front seats currently installed are the far more comfortable and safer highback later Porsche 911 seats. For the originality buyers, a pair of original seats will be included. The carpet and headliner were professionally replaced in 2009. Other interior areas are in fair condition. The gauges, switches and knobs on the face of the dash are all original, except for the installation of an aftermarket ignition switch. Pedal cluster was recently rebuilt with new bushings and shaft. Electricals Headlights (low and high beams), tail lights, brake lights, reverse lights, turn signals, horn, windshield wipers and Pioneer AM/FM/CD stereo are functional. The starter and generator are functioning fine. Tachometer and fuel gauge are functional. Oil temp gauge is currently not functioning. The speedometer and odometer are presently not functioning due to a faulty cable. Oil pressure, generator and low fuel warning lights are functional. A brand new 12 volt battery is installed. Engine and Transmission The engine is a 1600cc Porsche 912 engine (number 83239), factory rated at 95HP. Documentation for a complete engine rebuild is present and viewable in our photos and shows approximately $7500 was spent in 2001. Mileage placed on this engine, since it's rebuild, is approximately 2000 miles. The full rebuild included case line hone, crankshaft grind, replacement of main and rod bearings, new camshaft, new pistons and cylinders, valve guides, resurfacing of cylinder heads, etc.. The engine is a bit cold blooded, but once warmed up it accelerates smoothly with excellent power. Throttle response is excellent. There is no smoking on startup or during hard acceleration. The engine received the following service within the last 50 miles: oil and filter change, new fuel filter, valve adjustment, new plugs, points, timing adjusted and carburetors tuned. The correct 902/1 type five speed transmission shifts smoothly with no grinding in any gear. Suspension, Wheels, Tires and Brakes The suspension rides well and has that responsive and light feel that makes the short wheelbase 912 so desirable. Rear spring plate bushings were replaced three years ago. 15" x 6" Fuchs factory alloy wheels are currently installed and are in good condition with only a few minor scratches. Though these wheels are a bit wider than the original 15" x 4.5" steel wheels, they are much lighter, stronger and more valuable. The spare wheel is a 4.5" steel wheel. All four 205/60HR-15 sized Dunlop and BF Goodrich radial tires are only three years old and remain in excellent condition. The brakes are in excellent condition with newly rebuilt calipers installed at each wheel, new master cylinder and new brake hoses. The emergency brake is adjusted correctly and holds tight. Extra Parts and Documentation The following extra parts are included: Original front seats, two rocker deco trim pieces, spare wheel and jack. Documentation includes service records back to 2001, including documentation of complete engine rebuild.
