Vehicle Detail

Ok, the story goes. . . I have two 1970 Dodge Challengers, and one has to go. Both are plain Jane Yellow 318 cars. I bought this car last year and it just sat. Paid over 14500 for it. Don't want to sell it, but one of them has to go. Gotta pay for grad school. Ironic, I have about 14,500 in my other Challenger in 07, back when it was a sellers market. I found this Cobalt blue Challenger on EBay 2 years ago, but done. The Owners wife said it had to go. (Italian New York family, from Long Island NY) So I put my highest offer, and it was bided up until I won. (Gee thanks EBay, now I have to go get it) Anyways, I went out to New York in hopes to find a car to compliment my other one. To make one complete perfect car and leave the other for drag racing. (its a 12-13 second car. No Bars or funny stuff) This challenger is as is. Amateur restoration in 2007. Its mechanically solid. Its been overhauled mechanically and structurally. (98 rust free) It was intended for the street/drag strip. Tires and Rims are brand new but 5 years old. Aluminum American Racing rims. (Pizza cutters on the front, Which I can't stand) The car hardly any miles on the car since the motor was built. Has about 15,000 miles on the motor and trans, all redone 5 years ago. All the panels are original except partial quarters were replaced. Other metal was replace as well, for example the trunk floor. The rear end has a freshly rebuilt 8/3/4 4:10 Sure-grip. The previous owner stuck $ 1800 into it. He set the car up to drive on the street and drag race. Brakes are awesome. You can go 30-40, stomp the brakes and the car doesn't veer left or right. Front end was redone/rebuilt 5 years ago. Car is again, Mechanically solid. (except for a few headlights) Interior was mostly from "year one" redone 5 years ago; $2000. (Previous sellers receipts) Some pieces were reused, the carpet is already getting a little faded. Its a daily driver, so me and the guy just drove and enjoyed it. The car has a nice $500 Boss stereo in it. Plus a $300 dollar Tac. Motor is a 318 that's been bored over .050, and a 3.58 Crank. (same as a 360 crank, but not a 360 crank, it was special ordered) Its stroked to a mild 349 CID Stroker. Most people wouldn't do that, but the guy I bought it from was a 318 freak. He said it pushes somewhere between 325-350 hp. I'm guessing the car should do, with the 4:10 gears and drag tires, anywhere in the 12 - 13 second range. The previous owner showed plenty of paperwork on the build, said he had around $3000 into it. (the Motor) I also have a 300 dollar eBay purchase of a 750 Demon Carb for it. (brand new) Its got an older 4bbl Carter. The accelerator pump is going out; starts hard. The transmission is a 904 (it's the original) was professionally rebuilt, (set up for drag racing too) with heavy duty MANCINI - 904 Tan Direct Waffle Clutch's. The Torque converter was a custom build High Performance converter, between it and the racing tranny, the guy showed me again receipts for $2800. (I should have asked for them, but that was before I thought I'd sell the car) The motor is from a 90's Dakota/Durango motor, with Magnum heads. I have the original numbers matching 1970 318 back home in Wisconsin. I know the pictures shows differently. (older camera) but the car was never blocked and never professionally painted. The previous seller had his body guy just shoot it after he was done with metal work and body. This was a friend helping a friend deal. The guy couldn't finish the car, so the last owner just told him to put a coat of single stage on it. Cobalt Blue. (same paint as the blue on a NOS tank) and yes, I hate it when guys don't finish a car and just slap it all together. Underneath the car is clean and without rust. The trunk has a little surface rust inside the trunk, No big deal, it was just water that was trapped under the trunk mat. Mostly rust of paint, i rubbed most of it off, it didn't take anything away from the pan, again its brand new, but it was a surprise to me when i lifted the mat, and Oh, what a sweet surprise, rust/water under the trunk mat, No wonder they rusted themselves off the car. The body is done, but incomplete, its been conditioned and painted along with a nice undercoating, but that's all I know. The metal on the car was all very well in tact, and only needed some rear quarters. There is a small rust hole in the inside of the drivers side fender, that I just found while cleaning the car. (great) and apparently he forgot that part too, or was going to do the engine/bay later. Gee thanks previous owner. All the trim, along with the bumpers is original and needs replacing. (at least I'd replace it) its pitted here and there, scratch here, ding here etc. They are original, used and need to be replaced. Exhaust has been completely and professionally done. Around $800 stuck into it. I don't know what kind of mufflers are in it. But it sounds great. Especially with the Electronic Exhaust cutouts; again the owner was setting the car for street tire drag racing, I'm not sure what kind they are. They work great though. As it sits now, it has just a street/drag car that has been "shot" with a single stage of paint to protect it. The guy said he paid $2000 out of $4000 to do everything, and the car never got done. Again it was one of those deals where one guy said this, and this guy said that. . .and it simply never got completely finished. When he added everything up, the guy stuck over 18000 dollars in this car. And it looks like shit. I hate to say this about my own car, but it does. The car isn't worth what I want, and I have to bite the bullet to pay of Grad school. Unfortunately I ran all the way out to New York thinking the car was more from the simple photos he had. But it wasn't. I was a bit upset, especially with the "New" Paint job) So, I'm setting a Reserve and a Buy it now in hopes to find this Plain Jane, Mettled and Muddied Challenger a home. And yes, I know its a buyers market out there. But I'm just trying to be honest (unlike the guy i got schooled from) and sell one of my Ponies. Title is Clean and clear.
