Vehicle Detail
First off, I created this ebay account just to sell this car. Please don't be scared of 0 feedback. I am a real person, no scams or anything. Now onto the car. The guy I bought it from was an old neighbor of mine. The car was a project between him and his father in law. The car was the beginning of a frame-up restoration (work was done in a shop in Florida called Dave Yows). When he divorced his wife and his relationship with his former father in-law went to shit, so did the project (early 2000's). The car has sat garage kept basically ever since. I bought it with plans of fully restoring it, but never got around to it. Now I need the money for college. It is a 1970 Oldsmobile 98 2-door convertible with 35,117 miles on it!. This was Oldsmobiles' top luxury car back in the day to cruise around in, power windows, power seats, power locks, etc. The engine is a 455 cubic inch big block 7.5 liter V8. It was bored 60 over. The engine was completely rebuilt with more aggressive RV cams and balanced (pictures of the engine off the car when it was being rebuilt are below). A new Holley 870cfm Street Avenger 4-barrel electric choke carburetor was put on it. It has not been tuned yet for the car. I still have the original carburetor but it is not in great shape. The TH-400 (turbo-hydramatic) transmission was rebuilt, new brakes, new wires, new plugs, new exhaust system, new radiator, new gas pump, new filter, new chrome alternator, new starter, new electric fan assembly (not installed yet), new electric clock (not installed yet), re-chromed front and rear fenders, and probably more I can't remember. There are a ton of parts in the trunk, like trim, original parts that were replaced by new ones, extra parts, the owners manual, original carb, alternator, fuel pump, chrome tips for exhaust pipes, bucket of bolts and a lot of other miscellaneous. I believe mostly everything to complete the car is in the trunk (pictures below). This car is ridiculously rust free and solid. It was a frame up restoration project. At one point the whole car was taken apart. From the frame up it was rebuilt, however there are still some parts yet to be installed, most in the trunk. The frame and most of the metal parts under the car where coated at that time to prevent rust, so it is still solid without rust With all that said, it is still a major project. I never got around to getting a new convertible top. The engine/carb set-up still needs tuning. A lot of the electrical components of the car are there but need to be connected, like headlights, turn signals, power seats, etc. (making it not street legal at the moment). The hydraulic lines for the convertible motor need to be bled because there is air in them. The motor cranks over but air bubbles can be seen in the lines The interior needs a lot of work, like re-upholstering the back seats for sure, carpet, dash stuff. The car was being prepped to be painted, and I never got around to it. A friend of mine coated the car in a protective black coat to prevent rust. Black also shows all the imperfections which can be addressed for a professional paint job and to finish a proper prepping for the paint. The drive gear on the starter also needs to be replaced, which is a $15 part (the gear is over worn and causes it to slip every now and then). AC is not hooked up. Crack in corner of windshield. I was also told the battery in the car is under powered for the engine. THE CAR RUNS and drives, but it needs to be tuned and honestly all the fluids should be gone through again (radiator fluid, trans fluid, motor oil, brake fluid, etc.). It has been sitting in a garage for awhile, occasionally started just to move the fluids. Every now and then when the car is idling a loud squeaking noise happens briefly but then goes away. Someone told me it could be a loose or old belt, I'm not sure. I have also made sure old gas didn't sit in it too long. Anyhow, around $10,000 has been collectively put into this car. I know I will not get that out of the car as-is, but hopefully someone who is looking for this kind of project is interested for a reasonable price considering what has been done to it so far. I have a clear Illinois title in hand. The car needs to be towed by the buyer. Weekends are best for me for vehicle pick-up. Car Dimensions Length: 225.2 in (5,720 mm) Width: 80.0 in (2,032 mm) Height: 54.8 in (1,392 mm) Wheelbase: 127.0 in (3,226 mm) That is full disclosure of the car to my best ability. If there are any questions please just email me and I will try to answer them best I can. I am located in Geneva IL, 60134. It is about 50 minutes west of Chicago. Many more pictures below.
