1982 Vanagon L Westfalia Camper The Swiss Army Knife of Vanagons. Hello and thanks for looking at my auction. My business has required me to seek a full sized van or vehicle for expansion. I am the third owner of this van and have been using it for recreational camping for the last 3 years. The head gasket was recently replaced. When the timing was being set by Rocky Mountain Westy in Fort Collins, CO I learned that the engine is not original. It is a 1.9 liter diesel from a 1997 Volkswagen Jetta, engine code AAZ. The previous owner made no mention of this to me, but it was definitely good news! I bought it at 10,000 miles and it now has 18,000 miles on the odometer. I do not know the history of the odometer, but my theory is that it was replaced or reset when the new engine was installed.The van runs great and is mechanically sound, in addition it leaks nothing. All camping equipment works as it should, though I have never tried to get the refrigerator running on gas. It gets cold on 12V and 110.All glass is original.The van has been repainted and some point, but I do not have any receipts or know the history. I do not smoke, have kids, or dogs. Then van is clean. My wife and I recently drove it from Colorado to Tucson, Arizona for a two week tour. It got 30 mpg on the highway when loaded. I have a hitch that bolts onto the rear tow hooks of the van that will be included in the sale. The silver material over the engine compartment is a sound deadening material similar to "Fat Mat". It really helped with interior noise. The ceiling was peeling contact paper and hand painted by brush when I purchased the van. The panels were dropped and covered with fabric using spray adhesive. The whole project was fun and turned out very good. There are no wrinkles and we get compliments on it all the time. Included in the purchase of the vehicle is another few yards of the cloth to make matching throw pillows, napkins, curtains, or whatever you like.
