Vehicle Detail

Sorry. Couldn't find my camera. Will have much better pics on here tomorrow. Just snapped these with my phone in the meantime. They're horrible. Details are below pics. Have you ever seen a properly restored Scout II? Me neither. I always see these rusted out, spray-painted, butchered, pseudo-restorations. At best, it seems everybody wants to do the bolt-on, aftermarket short-cuts, instead of breaking some eggs and whipping up a nice omelet. I've restored dozens of 69-72 K5 Blazers, Jeep Commandos and Early 66-77 Ford Broncos (thus the name rockstar-stallions) over the course of 30 years. Some original, some radical, usually rotisserie style, and I’ve sold them here on eBay to satisfied customers all over the world, as far away as New Zealand. I haven’t done a Scout since I was in college (1990-ish), but I’ve always wanted to do an original Scout II. When I found this one in a barn in Northern Colorado last fall, stored away for the past 18 years, I knew I had found the one worthy of the commitment. The story as I know it: This Scout began its life in California. It has all of the original CA emissions equipment. What makes this car so unique is that, not only is it a California car, but it was also rustproofed at the dealership before it was first sold. The body was very well preserved. Most of the 74,000 original miles were applied on the desert roads of Southern California. It was later brought to Colorado in 1990, where it spent about 4 years on a horse ranch taking hay out to pasture for horses. Then it was covered and stored away in a barn until I bought it from the second owner last fall. It had 1995 plates on it. He had it on a battery charger and wasn’t sure if it would start, but with a little starting fluid, it sparked to life and I drove it 20 miles home to my shop. The project began by completely disassembling the car down to the bare bones, removing all carpet, mats, interior, and exterior lights, hard top and trim. Any surface rust was removed with a wire wheel and POR15 applied prior to finish coating. A nything more than very light surface rust was cut out, new metal was welded in, and treated again (POR15) prior to finishing body work. 3M seam sealer was applied to all body seams. All work is show quality (two stage paint job with 10 coats of glassy clear coat), and well-documented. Every effort was made to keep it original. The only things I added that were not original equipment were: · 2 ½ inch Heavy Duty shackles all the way around · New polyurethane suspension bushings throughout · Heavy Duty skid plate under fuel tank · Electronic Ignition System · Powder Coated Roll bar w new BestTop Bimini Top Everything else is 100% original, right down to the hubcaps and AM radio. Everything works… every light, marker light, fan, heater wipers… every single thing has been taken apart and gone through, cleaned meticulously and repaired/replaced as needed… several 100 hours of labor in total over the last 8 months. A link will be provided for receipts after I get a chance to scan them. · Original interior was done professionally and is period correct using quality materials. · Bed liner was professionally applied to entire interior of tub. · Car was repainted to show quality in the original color (red/orange), so engine compartment etc. all match and look original. · OEM bumpers were professionally re-chromed. · All door and top seals, door glass felt etc. replaced with correct moldings. · Under the hood: oil/filter change, transmission service, replaced valve cover gaskets and refinished valve covers, cleaned/detailed engine bay, replaced worn belts, coolant and vacuum hoses, flushed radiator and brake system, rebuilt original Holley carburetor, installed new electronic ignition system and new cap/rotor/plugs/wires etc., installed new Interstate (800cca) battery, new 2 ½” dual exhaust with OE mufflers. Links to additional photos and documentation will be added throughout the auction (see comments at bottom of page). I am also available by phone if you have questions or would like to schedule an inspection and test drive. Thanks for your interest, Rob (970)690-6704On Aug-03-12 at 21:11:59 PDT, seller added the following information: eBay does not allow me to post a link to my hosting site, so I will keep adding more photos. More to come... Videos and photo updates (Saturday August 4, 2012 9am): On Aug-03-12 at 21:45:52 PDT, seller added the following information: Let’s try that again… (technical issue). Tech support, please remove previous add, if possible. Videos and photo updates (Saturday August 3, 2012): On Aug-04-12 at 09:17:18 PDT, seller added the following information: Thanks for your patience while I attempt to get information and photos up a little bit at a time. I have a dozen folders full of photos from every phase of this restoration. It would be oh so simple if eBay would allow me to link to my hosting site, where you could browse ALL of them freely... but they don't allow that anymore. Apparently, they don't make enough money off dinging people per-picture... ok, I digress again. Try messaging or calling me for the link to my hosting site if you're interested. I will now ATTEMPT to post more pics below. On Aug-04-12 at 09:32:20 PDT, seller added the following information: Well, that was yet another test to see if I could keep from losing my mind trying to post pictures on eBay! No, I actually didn't want to post 16 more of the same pictures already here. I won't get into it. It's too rediculous. I'm actually really good at this, but nothing on this site works the way it's supposed to, and I'm having issues with my hosting site as well. So I'm getting it from both ends this morning. Here goes again. On Aug-04-12 at 10:59:34 PDT, seller added the following information: This video was shot in June, after I painted and clear coated the car for the first time. I wasn't satisfied with the paint job (that old original paint created a lot of little "chemical pops"), so I worked it some more. Since I had already resigned myself to painting it again, I block sanded out several of the small dings with 1500 and got it laser straight. I also decided to permanently attach the bed rail caps, which would never need to be removed. These were welded and finished with seam sealer before prep and paint. All together, there are 10 coats of clear on it. In the finished pictures, I did the minimum detailing on the paint (1500, 2000, 3000, buff). If you wanted to have someone spend more time on it, it could be improved significantly. But unless your a freak like me, you'll probably never notice. On Aug-04-12 at 11:40:46 PDT, seller added the following information: I'll be installing the hard top within a couple days, after it is detailed. It's a very cool metallic black, and has all the original moldings, headliner, dome light etc. It will be carefully installed over all new OE rubber seals. Here's a few pics. The first is after color coat only. Then three of it finished prior to final detail. Then the original interior panels for the top. Last is where it's at today. More soon. By the way; eBay will not allow me to post a link to all my pictures on the auction page, but I replied to a question (all the way at bottom of page) and put the link in there, along with my email address (probably a bad idea). There are hundreds of pics at various stages of the restoration, and they are completely unorganized. Unfortunately, because photobucket only allows one tier of folders., I had to throw them all in one. Sorry about that. If you spend the time to sort through them, you can actually get a pretty good picture of the whole process. On Aug-04-12 at 14:03:26 PDT, seller added the following information: NO RESERVE. I require a $1000 deposit through PayPal within 48 hours of auction close. Balance (in cleared funds) must be paid within 7 days of auction close. Special arrangements may be made for pick-up, or I will coordinate with your shipper as far as scheduling a pick-up. If you need time to pick-up, get in touch with me to discuss an arrangement. I have to be clear: shipping is 100% on you, the buyer. I do have experience with this and could recommend a shipper, but shipping is not part of my deal. That being said, I'll do all I can to help smooth things out.On Aug-04-12 at 14:05:09 PDT, seller added the following information: On Aug-07-12 at 07:05:50 PDT, seller added the following information: Some specifics: Engine: 345 cid International V8 Transmission: Chrysler 727 Torqueflight Transfer Case: Dana 20 Front Axle: Dana 30 with manual lockout hubs Color: 2289 "Flame Red"On Aug-08-12 at 21:11:45 PDT, seller added the following information: Finished detailing the hard top last night. Removed the bikini top and hardware today. Then installed the sliding windows in the hard top and mounted the top on the new seals. Also installed rear armrests. Tomorrow, will install the molded plastic interior trim etc., and the passenger side mirror that just came back from the glass shop. Final pics tomorrow evening (Thursday). On Aug-08-12 at 22:14:32 PDT, seller added the following information: Correction: The new Interstate battery is not 800 cca (that's my diesel battery). It is 550 cca... which was specified for this vehicle. On Aug-09-12 at 19:54:31 PDT, seller added the following information: Today (Thursday 8-9-2012): Installed interior trim for hard top. Installed passenger side mirror. Applied undercoating (3M). Tomorrow (Friday): Install weather stripping on hard top around doors and rear hatch. Do full transmission service. Per the previous owner, the transmission was rebuilt in 1993 (at about 72,000 miles), but I do not have documentation. Transmission shifts beautifully, and firm. Just replacing the filter and fluids because it sat for so long. On Aug-09-12 at 20:07:55 PDT, seller added the following information: Well, I just painstakingly resized, uploaded and linked 15 more pics to this page, but all I see are little red Xs... Hmmm. I love eBay. If I repost them, I'll have duplicates, which is why this page is already a disaster. I'll wait awhile and see... At least the video works. On Aug-10-12 at 08:07:04 PDT, seller added the following information: I guess too many is better than not enough... On Aug-10-12 at 08:10:53 PDT, seller added the following information: I'm done with this. Email me if you have questions or want to see something specific. Good luck.
