New Water pump;;;;new timing Belt 1993 Honda Prelude: A high-performance VTEC edition joined the lineup, with a 190-horsepower twin-cam version of the 2.2-liter base engine. VTEC Preludes rode larger wheels and tires. Both the VTEC and the Si 4WS had dual airbags. Pros: Quick, nimble, accurate, and still stylish a decade later Cons: Few features to be found, simplistic interior The Bottom Line: An excellent car if you can't afford a Porsche or similar. Great for college students or singles. Again, speed, style, and reliability all rolled into one. More power, in the form of Honda's exclusive VTEC system, is available to the Prelude. A boost of 30 horsepower is the result. Anyone that thinks this car understeers has got the wrong tires on the car. The handling and cornering feel of this car is hard to match, even by newer cars. Ignore the specified mileage figures, at least for the VTEC. I would get 28-29 mpg cruise and no less than 26 mpg if I really put my foot into it a lot with a fair amount of city driving. The VTEC would start to kick in about 4500 rpm and felt a bit like a turbo. Passing 5 cars will put you over 120 mph in real hurry on the highway. The last time I got to drive this it had 130,000 miles on it and ran like new. It has always run on synthetic (Mobil-1 & Amsoil) engine/gear oil from the 1st oil change at 1000 miles. Additionally, a 2.0i, single overhead cam (sohc) non vtec model was released in Europe, rated at 133 PS (98 kW; 131 hp). 1993 was the last year that the "Si-VTEC" (BB4) name was used, and beginning in 1994 it was shortened to just and stayed that way throughout the rest of the generation. In some countries, the Prelude with 2.2 VTEC engine was called the VTi-R. In the Si was called the SR, and the VTEC was called the SR-V. Due to the width dimensions and the engine displacement exceeding for vehicles classified as "compact", this generation Prelude obligated Japanese owners to yearly taxes, and the Prelude became known as a luxury car in Japan as a result.
