After ignoring her for some time I finally decided to get to know her better and was in for a pleasant surprise when the connection was made. The surprise was due to how warm and how well I was treated.The engine came to life with half a key turn and it just felt so right. The ride that followed impressed me even more. The ride was supple yet firm and comfortable and i was impressed at the quality of suspension just absorbing it all without as much as squeak. Driving this car you can't help not to smile a little and nod your approval and appreciation at the overall high grade of the interior design, engineering and material quality. Feeling invincible and so darn special i parked her at the very spot we left from. Damn, i thought, what a great condition this car is in. Like new. I then remembered that several other high mileage Japanese cars i had tested also were like new. I don't know how they do it, i thought and petting BMW on the rooif i remembered a1997 article from a Car and Driver comparison test and a finalizing line that said something like "Get a bmw to get your heart started" This BMW is real clean on the inside, no dings, no dents, and it runs and drives very well. Strong responsive engine. Transmission shifts good. Car accelerates with effortless ease. Transmission shifts are precise and direct. Steering is confident and on point. It relaxes and inspires your confidance. Cold AC. Paint original. Body is in great shape. All the glass is good. No smoke. No rust. No leaks. No odors. Non-smoker. Power windows, locks, sunroof are in good working order. This BMW starts right up. It runs, drives, rides, turns, steers and stops as any well-kept , well-maintained and cared for BMW would, that means no clicking sounds when making a turn, no pulsating or shaking when coming to a hard stop. No hissing, no knocking no ticking during normal driving or at idle. Mechanically everything appears to be in good working order. No vibrations or noises of any kind. No immediate in your face mechanical issues that i can see. The engine sounds good when its running and the RPM needle stays put without any spikes or drops. You will need new tires, at least two up front. The exhaust note sounds good, the suspension didn't raise any concerns during a test drive, instead it pleasantly surprised, as car felt solid as a vault and yet comfortably firm and composed going over bumps and other imperfections. The cooling looks good. There is no overheating concerns. Electrical also looks good as no issues/glitches came up. Braking is fantastic on this car as it stops on a dime. No pulsating, no grinding noises to report. Other systems and components appear to be as good as any and are fully operational in good working order. Considering overall condition of this 528i and the obvious highway mileage, this BMW appears to be a very strong and solid vehicle. Quite good on gas, safe, extremely durable and reliable it's an overall a good solid car that had been well maintained and cared for. I say so because there is a dozen other 5 series here right now, many with half the miles as this one and yet most of them are mechanics specials. For a car to reach almost 200,000 miles and to remain in top shape both mechanically and cosmetically is saying something about whom that car belonged to, the care with which it was driven, the way with which it was driven, how it was used, cared for, maintained, etc. Or was it pushed, abused, neglected and exploited? People tend to be agressive with a BMW because they think its this fancy european racer fighter made to go fast and drive hard and also because they feel invincible in it. The car does make you feel that way so when I personally checked out several 5 series that are sitting here and with 87K, 102K and 119K on odometer they ran terribly with something major going on with their engines and electronics. Because its a machine it will fail if not properly maintained, mishandled and abused. So don't let the mileage fool you, these are mostly highway miles from cruising the interstate by a mature adult who likely never raced this Bimmer, spun wheelies or zero to sixtied it. By no means it was a stop and go city driving car - all high mileage city cars have sad-looking worn out steering wheels from constant turning, along with tired and out of tune running engines and shut suspensions. The interior of the BMW is clean and decent without rips, cuts and tears. The drivers seat now has its plastic panel loose and its missing control bottons and so is the climate control. The plastic piece can be reatached. The same kind of voulchers who lift shifter knobs from Lexus and Jaguar had lifted the the bottons here. After test driving this car and checking it out i am now confident this BMW is of a better condition and a superior overall quallity when compared to others of similar year and mileage. As per our disclore policy i believe this 528i to be of a much better grade. I believe i disclosed all I know about the car at this time. As with most vehicles of herein mentioned age and mileage there will be certain issues and faults consistent with and to be expected from normal useage, wear and tear. Overall its a surprisingly solid, well performing, clean and healthy car thats got plenty of miles to go. Some investment will be required to pass insp, like newer tires for excample.
