Vehicle Detail
Very, very cool and completely, totally and thoroughly stock and original (other than tires and wheels) 1958 GMC 100 Shortbed Pickup Truck. It looks like this truck was purchased in 1958 by Dale Warwood on a 36 month loan for 4-D Plumbing and Builders Supply of Nephi, Utah from Painter's GMC in Nephi. The current title was issued on May 5, 1961 when the lien was released by First Security Bank of Utah, NA. It shows Dale Warwood and 4-D Plumbing and Builders Supply as the owner. I have the open title with his release signature so you will be the second owner. It was used as a service truck for the paint and varnish division (you can barely read logo on doors) until the 1970's when it was put to pasture in the dry climate of central Utah until 2012. I'm a big fan of the body of this GMC because of it's history and purity. It's got 54 years of patina only Mother Nature could provide. I have two of the original split rims with vintage tires on them (see pics). The other two have been lost to history. What you see on it are some BF Goodrich All-Terrain Radial T/A's on chrome rims that I'm using as rollers. They are in good shape and come with the truck. All body panels are original except the tailgate (but the original is included). It has very minor floorboard rust. Patch panels are readily available for the cab corners and rear of front fenders. I found work gloves stuffed in the cab corners which prevented drainage and caused rust from the inside out. Very typical of these trucks. The wood in the bed is original. Glass is good other than windshield and passenger door. What would be very awesome is for someone to clear coat the patina and preserve her originality and age marks. Restorations can be done over and over but a truck is only original once. The interior is original and complete. All knobs and buttons are there (passenger door handle is in glove box). Windows roll up and down. Headlights work but tail lights and blinkers do not. Seat base is in pretty good shape but seat back has been duct taped to cover large tears in original upholstery. The original headliner is there and looks really good. Again, floorboards are very decent. All gauges work other than the odometer (speedo works). It's only real downside is some old, very repairable cuts in the dash to install a tape deck. And the running gear is excellent. It's very clear this truck was well maintained before retirement. It's all original too. Hopefully a GMC expert can tell me what engine it has from the pics or VIN. The nomenclature plate is included in the pics. She has a 12 Volt Generator and starts right up then warms to a smooth idle. The four on the floor transmission shifts smoothly with tight synchros and the rear diff spins quietly with no leaks. It starts, runs, idles, accelerates, drives, turns, brakes and stops really, really well. The only flaws I've found are a small leak in the lower left corner of the bottom radiator tank (not severe and no overheating problems whatsoever) and the brakes will go to the floor after she has been sitting awhile. Pump them up and they are fine and you don't need to pump them to stop. I just took it for a spin around the neighborhood and I'm very impressed with what a great and easy driver she is in her current state. Like I said, this is a very, very cool, one 54 year owner, original, stock 1958 GMC 100 truck. I'd call it a barn find, survivor type vehicle. It runs and drives great and can be fixed up or left alone. I hope it finds a home with someone who is interested in preserving it. My name is Chris and I am happy to answer your questions. Please call me at 435-669-1470. I also have tons of pictures. Just send me a non-Ebay email address and I will send them to you. It's located in the dry, desert community of St. George, Utah (about 100 miles north of Las Vegas). Thank you very much for your interest. On Jul-13-12 at 23:24:13 PDT, seller added the following information: A sharp Ebayer just let me know my engine is the factory 270CID straight six. And boy does it run great. Paint is obviously original. No bodywork or bondo anywhere. Original Assembly Line Supervisor codes are still under hood and on firewall. On Jul-15-12 at 00:12:14 PDT, seller added the following information: Gotta get this sold by auction end Sunday night. I think it's worth much more but I've just lowered the Reserve to $3500. Good luck and good bidding.
