Vehicle Detail
1970 MG - MGB for sale I purchased this car from a guy who had bought it and basically brought it home, put it up on jacks and forgot about it. He had it for 4 years in his garage, so most of the work was done by the previous owner. THE BODY Looks like to drivers side rear quarter was replaced (you can see a paper tag in the trunk, which makes me think it's after market). Trunk area is perfect. Whoever painted this car did a good job not "show car" great, but a nice job with no runs, orange peel. There are a few chips in the paint. I cannot find any body filler so it must have been solid to start with. The floor pan was replaced at one time, it's solid - no rust. The interior was out of it when I got it, so I wire-brushed the floor, put on 2 coats of "rustoleum" primer, and 2 coats of "rustoleum" black paint. The underneath - I inspected, wire-brushed, painted, sprayed rubber coating over as much as I could. Over-all the body is super solid - no worries about it rusting away! MECHANICAL The brake system was all redone, new rear drums, brake shoes, emergency brake cables (I installed this), wheel cylinders and hardware. NEW BRAKE LINES THROUGH OUT The front brakes were replaced as well, new rotors, calp pads, flex lines, new wheel bearings, seals. FUEL TANK looks in good shape. (I siphoned the old gas out, no rust flakes in the fuel) new electric fuel pump and fuel lines. I installed the carpet - underneath this is the silver heat cover that was recommended by Moss Motors. When I got it the wiring was all messed up - not seriously hacked up - stupid stuff - red wire plugged into a blue connector, wrong wires at the fuse block. I down-loaded a wiring diagram and straightened it all out. EVERYTHING works as it should. New front turn signal assembly. New exhaust from the mainfold back (OEM style, 2 mufflers system) New rear tires (as tall as I could for exhaust ground clearance) the front tires are 90% the steering rack as rebuilt This is a 4 speed NO overdrive transmission I have replaced all the fluids, greased, check it over bumper to bumper. Motor starts well, no oil leaks or smoke - doesn't use oil. I have made a air filter set up, not perfect, but it works well. I have replaced the Lucas alt with a GM unit. I have the old Lucas. It worked but the GM charges better - more amps. All new tune-up when I got it. I got 2 sets of points/condenser, coil as spares. THE TOP - is a 7 out of 10. Someone tried to install it, put the clips in the wrong places, so there are a couple of extra holes in the base as well as some side seams ripped - nothing major. It is water tight, but not perfect. WHAT IT NEEDS The 90 degree fitting on the speedo cable (it was broken when I got it, tried not to use it, but the speedo will bounce all around without this piece - speedo cable needs to be almost straight. The oil PSI sending unit on the engine, (the gauge works, the sending unit was going, the gauge would jump up and down). I presently have a mechanical gauge installed. Good PSI 60-75 running down the road. Either 1 airfilter base plate and install the OEM airfilter assemblies (I have all the pieces but that 1 base) or a nice set of aftermarket filters. It has the 2 SU carbs that seem to work well. The wiper arms - they work but 1 is different (black), could use a set of three all the same. I run this car almost daily. It is inspected, insured. Car drives great, handles awesome. I use it to drive the 55 mile round-trip to my sailboat on the interstate, cruised 70-75 easy - fun to drive!
