Vehicle Detail
I purchased this Landcruiser in 1977 and am the second owner. I was a Second Lieutenant , USMC when I purchased it during the Carter Administration, when we did not have jeeps that would run nor could we get the M151 jeeps out of the motor pool in order to inspect our training areas and ranges. All officers back then used their own 4WD vehicles to conduct reconnaissance of the training areas to plan training events. This FJ40 has been in every training area and over every tank trail in Camp Lejeune and Quantico (winter and summer) and has never left me stranded or stuck. I have kept this cruiser stock. Lots of folks converted theirs to the Chevy 302 V-8 which was always a bad decision. It has been in my “bucket list” of projects to restore this cruiser but I am now 58 years old and I realize that project will never happen. I hate to part with it but it needs a young person who can restore it and enjoy it. If you like off-roading you will not be disappointed, and if you know anything about Landcruisers I do not have to tell you about their indestructible and unstoppable capability off the road. This cruiser has been setting on the back of my farm and has not been used for many years. i does not run. The engine is not frozen up; I turned the crank shaft back and forth about an inch by hand today. When I parked it, the only thing it needed was a clutch master cylinder which I bought but never installed. The body is in poor condition but does keep the elements out. The vehicle has never been wrecked or over-turned and the frame and power train are in good shape. The tires are old and will have to be replaced before driving it on the road. I suspect the brake cylinders will have to be replaced and the drums turned. The winch is a Warn 8274 winch and is far better than any winch made today. Single line pull, it will lift this cruiser completely off the ground and suspend it. I have the remote cable with the winch and it is included. I will try and explain the additional parts which are: original 2F engine block, head, and rocker assembly (I found and rebuilt a second 2F engine which is now in the cruiser and has 75k miles on it). The original engine had 75k on it when I installed the rebuilt engine. New two piece (top back rest and seat) seat cover for the passenger seat (I still have the receipt, it cost me 130 dollars in 1985), new water pump, two new tail light assemblies, one new tail light lens, two new brake pads, two new brake wheel cylinders, a new clutch master cylinder; all the original heat shields for the undercarriage, several old wheel brake cylinders and boots, original hubs caps to include hub caps to fit over the lock out hubs, exhaust manifold, everything you see in the photos come with the cruiser. The pistons and connecting rods in the photo are NOT landcruiser parts. They are for a ford 352 engine and since I included them in the photo they are yours if you want them. All the extra parts have been stored in a water tight container. Vehicle will have to be picked up locally, I will help you load it but you will need your own trailer or roll-back. I will load the additional engine block on your truck or trailer. Payment must be made via paypal, once payment has cleared I will coordinate and schedule the pick-up with you. My reserve is very low but just high enough to keep the “scrap metal” folks from bidding. If you have any questions I will try and answer them as best I can and in a timely manner.
