Vehicle Detail

For Sale here is my 1974 MGB Convertible with Overdrive. I purchased this car from a friend back in 1995 when it had 42K miles on it. In 1998 I put an overdrive trans in it that I bought out of Hemmings. I went to Benton Harbor and attended a workshop where I went through the trans and put in any needed parts. I didn't have a new speedometer cable for the overdrive so I bought one and never got around to putting it on. Its read 45710 since. I figure it has about 80K plus miles on it. At the same time I had the cylinder head fitted with hardened valve seats. It was pretty rusty so I put the J.C. Whitney rusty rocker hiders on it around then too. You can see the rust in the pics but floors and trunk are still stable. I drove the car in tandem with another "family type car" for about 5 years. In 2002 I put antique plates on the car and drove it only in the summer. We hardly drove the car for the past four years so I just cleaned it up, changed the oil, tuned it up, etc. I took it to work about a month ago and at highway speed it squirted out one of the valve pushrods. I just put it back in (runs great) but I can't trust it anymore so I am offering it up for about what an overdrive and the price of this ad would cost. This would make a great donor car for that Bracken colored car that sold here last week. The car has been garaged kept since I bought it and in a heated garage since 2005. The tires and brakes have about 5K miles on them. The top is driver quality except for the driver's quarter light that my kid damaged. He was going to Afghanistan so I cut him some slack and we taped it up with clear vinyl- holds good. BTW the top forth rail was never glued on so you can use it on another driver pretty easy. We put on a new alternator, coil, plugs, cap, wires, etc recently. I put in a new ignition switch and left the bolt heads on so you can take that off easy too. I bought some accessories from Moss and Victoria to include a new dash top, visors, o/s mirrors, repo p-700 headlights, and light & turn signal switch. I been driving 1974 MGBs since they were new. I have the original carbs for it (I put the HS4 units on because of preference). From my first MGB I have a decent set of seats and some other things like more carbs, air cleaners and elements, ignition stuff, wire wheel caps, interior latches and parts, plus some some other doodads which I will include if the bidding gets over $900.00. I sure had fun with these cars over the years but now I want something a bit more comfortable so I hope this is what you are looking for and you sure can't beat the price. You will need to trailer this car out of here. It might make it if you drove real slow but I wouldn't trust it. I am about ten west of I55 & I80 if you want to drive and have a look. Email with questions. Thanks for looking. On May-31-12 at 18:42:50 PDT, seller added the following information: Shipping Price Estimator What is your Delivery Zipcode? powered by On Jun-02-12 at 10:10:17 PDT, seller added the following information: I've uploaded some more pictures. The car has always run well. Either the valves are starting to sink or the valve springs are too weak to remove slack in the valve train at highway speeds. Figure the head needs to come off. Only a slight amount of oil smoke comes out the exhaust. If you had a rebuilt engine it would go for quite some time. The overdrive filter is probably plugged because it goes in and out while driving. The problem seems to go away after you drive it a bit. This is an MGB from the midwest. It is rusty as I eluded to in my original description. The outside rockers are almost gone. It is bubbling around the rear wheelwell openings and above the inside left front wheel well next to the bonnet. The sills and floors aren't bad maybe a little fiberglass would help. Now that I've uploaded more images you will see all the things I've mentioned and see that this car is not as rusted underneath as you would think. I forgot to mention I put a brand new constant displacement (rotory vane type) fuel pump from auto zone just a few weeks ago. The Lucas (Prince of Darkness) units are worthless If you ask me. The boot, tanneau, spare jack etc are all there but I believe a mouse got at the boot a bit. When you own an MG plan on doing maintenance all the time. Remember my asking price is the cost of an overdrive tranmission. Good Luck!On Jun-09-12 at 15:27:52 PDT, seller added the following information: Well, Here are the parts going with the car, I'll try to add pics but so far no luck: 1.
