Vehicle Detail
You are bidding on a 1969 Opel GT 1900 with a fuel injected 2.4L Opel engine and a 5-speed Getrag transmission. The odometer shows 06425.5. The starter went out in early 2004 and I had less than 1000 miles on the new engine. I bought a new (rebuilt) starter but never got around to having it installed, so it has sat in a garage since then. I purchased this Opel near Kalamazoo Michigan in '99 for $5000 from a man who owned a body shop. She was originally a light blue color, as can be seen in the engine compartment. He painted her red some time before I purchased her. I have a folder of maintenance records from the previous owner that goes back to 1983. In 2003 I had the engine swapped out for a rebuilt 2.4L Opel engine with fuel injection and had the transmission upgraded from a 4-speed to a 5-speed Getrag. I also had larger brake calipers and rotors, a new clutch and a new gas tank installed. The work was performed by Foreign Car Services of Kalamazoo, MI. Around that time, Super Bee of Augusta, MI made a custom 2" dual exhaust. I wanted to get more of a European race car sound, and it sounds great! The total cost of the major upgrades as been about $5200 in parts and about $6600 in labor. As I was ordering all these parts from OpelGTSource.com I also ordered an air conditioning kit, new turn signals front and rear, new brake lights, new chrome for around the rear window and other cosmetic things. None of these parts have been installed, but they will be included with the sale of the car. I also have an Owners Workshop Manual and other documentation on opels, like instructions, old advertising, etc. Being over 40 years old, there are a number of things that need to be addressed. The new starter needs to be installed. The left headlight has trouble latching in the closed position. (Both headlights are fine staying in the open position.) The cable to unlatch the hood has broken and needs to be replaced. There are a few spots of bubbling under the paint and a couple places where there is visible rust. Most of these spots are shown in the photos, except for some rust in the battery tray. The badging has fallen off in the back, but you can see it near the shifter, waiting to be reinstalled. The seats had covers on them and I took them off to take photos. The driver's seat has seen better days, and the passenger seat has some split seams. The dashboard has some large cracks in it and should be replaced if you want the car to look perfect. There is some loose wiring under the dash, and there is no radio. I didn't drive her enough to care about the radio. I just enjoyed listening to the engine. Any new parts needed can be found at OpelGTSource.com. They have everything you could possibly need for an Opel! Since the starter went out shortly after I brought her to Orlando, FL she is still titled in Michigan, and the title is lein free. This Opel is sold as is where is. She is for sale locally; I reserve the right to end the auction early if she sells locally. If you arrange the shipping, I will facilitate it on this end. Or if you prefer, I have a trailer and am willing to deliver for $2 per mile after the sale has been finalized. I will accept payment via paypal, cash, money order or cashier's check.
