Good 'ole original Barn Find 1947 Dodge truck. This thing is solid as a rock both mechanically and the body. Original paint shows the solid metal on this 'ole girl. There shows about a quarter size rust on each of the running boards near a mount.Some surface rust and a few small cracks in the box top rail. (the farmer had a wood box extension on it for hauling grain and this must have put a little stress on the box hole pockets and left small cracks.) All in all this thing was stored in a granary for many years and the original look is awsome. The six cylinder "SPITFIRE" motor starts and runs like a clock. The four speed transmission works fine.. you really need to "love" it back into gear when your downshifting.(tha'ts a 65 year old truck). I have enjoyed this truck for many years but time to dig my old chevy out and complete it..The tires are solid and will go for may years I believe. The brakes will need attention like to be taken apart and clean out the old grime and lube the connectors maybe replace a broken rubber line I believe. The emergency brake worked fine for parades and such so I didn't get around to fixing it.. sorry to say I dont have the original tailgate, but shouldnt be hard to make one. The seat is worn but springs seem solid. Not all the guages work but they are all there. I dont think anything is missing except the tail gate. Headlights work but not sure about the other lights.Hmmmm .... what am I missing.. Oh ya ! I have the clear Minnesota title in hand... new (reproduction) tailgates and other parts are available at a company called "Vintage Powerwagons"... You may already know the two other companies that specialise in parts for these are Roberts motor parts and Dodge Central of Michigan. Atlas Obsolete Chrysler parts has also been a good source for rare stuff. Vintage Power Wagons gives great mechanical advice as well, extensive website is also excellent for some mechanical tips. There is rarely any problem finding most regular parts for these vehicles. There is even a company that is starting to make a reproduction windshield frames, since the bottom channel is frequently rusted out. You may already know that the Spitfire engine is somewhat unusual/rare ... I believe it is very desirable. Good luck, these are really great trucks, I have had mine for thirty years.
