Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 1990 Volkswagen Jetta GLI 16V 2.0L -- VIN WVWTJ21G6LW394722 174,080 milesThis GLI is factory equipped with sporty 2.0L 16v engine, close ratio 5 speed transmission, power steering, power windows, central locking system, cruise control, rear defrost, sun roof, power mirrors, power Recaro seats and BBS alloy wheels. All "recent" items are within the last three years or 10,000 miles The engine is in great shape with a recent valve job, valve stem seals, head gasket, timing belt, engine front oil seals, valve cover gasket, water pump, coolant reservoir, bearing type water pump pulley and wheel well splash shield. The battery is about 4 years old now but works well. The original Bosch distributor had a seal leak and was replaced with a refurbished OEM unit in early September. There is an ongoing power steering leak that I did not have the time to have fixed. I believe it’s coming from the reservoir, or one of its rubber hoses attached to it. The exhaust consists of a 3 year old Techtonics sport 2.25" stainless exhaust system with stainless Borla Muffler. It has a nice sound to it, with the occasional burble and pop. There are no exhaust leaks. The suspension has been modified a bit including an Autotech hollow front sway bar, 28mm Neuspeed rear sway bar, Neuspeed lowering springs with recent Bilstein HD struts; Neuspeed strut tie bar (not installed but comes with car). Brake system recently flushed &refilled with Castrol LMA DOT4 brake fluid. Recent front rotors, with EBC Greenstuff pads, the rear rotors were replaced as well with new OEM pads. The ball joints were replaced when the struts were installed. The wheels are the stock BBS RA's with a good finish. They are not perfect, but at highway speeds there are no vibrations. The tires are General UHP summer tires. They have about 10,000 miles on them and are very grippy. This Jetta's shifting has been improved with an ABD weighted shift rod. It has a much shorter throw than stock. A new gear lever was installed and rebuilt shift linkage was done this past September. Every last shifter bushing was replaced with new OEM bushings. It shifts very smooth now and engages all gears with ease. The clutch is very recent and has about 2,000 miles on it. A Sach’s brand clutch kit was installed, but the flywheel was switched with a Eurospec lightened flywheel. The engine revs quicker and accelerates better than stock. The transmission is original to the car is in excellent working order with no issues whatsoever. When the clutch was done, the input shaft seal, and both axle seals were replaced. The air conditioning had always blown cold throughout my ownership until this summer. There was a leaking a/c line coming from the receiver dryer. They were both replaced, and the system recharged with fluorescent dye to aid with future leak detection. The system blows extremely cold now, better than many newer cars I have driven. The front end of the vehicle looks a little different from your normal 1990 Jetta GLI. One of the previous owners installed a GTI radiator core support and a GTI grille with H4/H1's headlamps. Early last fall, the driving lights were relayed separately from the headlamps and are nice and bright now. They can be turned on independently of the headlamps as well. The plastic vapor barriers on all doors had been replaced by the previous owner. No soggy carpets or mildew smells in this VW. The car has Mk3 door handles which operate a little bit nicer than the original ones. The audio system consists of a 1990’s Clarion CD player which gets the job done (that’s about it). Polk Audio 6-1/2 mid speakers in custom map pockets, 6x9 Alpine speakers in rear deck. The headliner was replaced right before I took ownership of the car; it’s in great shape still. White covers were installed sometime in the 90’s over the stock speedometer and tachometer. Excellent Recaro seats & interior with a new driver’s seat left bottom bolster (uninstalled but included with the sale). Solid crack-free dash covered by a Dashmat cover. There is also another Dashmat cover on the rear deck. The steering column cover is included with the car. I had it off once and didn’t have a chance to put it back. The car has no major body rust. There is a small spec of rust on the passenger side rear door near the bottom, no bubbles anywhere else. This car appears to have not been driven in the winter very often, as there is no rust on any of the parts under the hood (other than the ugly strut brace which I removed). Unfortunately there is some hail damage, mostly on the hood (10 or so pings). There are one or two pings in the roof. The car has been repainted once or twice in its life. All factory white paint jobs, but some poor masking was done by the body shop here and there. On the C pillars at the top near the roof there is a small bit of clear coat peeling. The steering wheel and shift knob pictured will be included only if the vehicle is purchased at the "buy it now" price. They have already been removed from the car and replaced with the stock components. Note: This vehicle was a dealer buyback/lemon in 1995. The vehicle was re listed due to this coming to the surface. The car has no issues other than the small power steering leak, so its safe to say that the problem that caused the buyback was fixed some time ago. The car runs and drives great, and otherwise has a clean title. This vehicle was re listed to correct the title info, correct the mileage (from 174480 to 174080) and to update the suspension components that were replaced. On May-28-12 at 08:54:19 PDT, seller added the following information: 05/28/12 -- In the spirit of full disclosure, the A/C is not currently working. It was working last week before the listing, and I just found out this morning that its not currently working. I dont know why, but the compressor doesnt seem to be coming on. Its probably not an expensive fix, unfortunately I dont have time to have this fixed or looked at. I hope this doesnt deter anyone from buying this great well cared for Jetta. If you bid on the car and no longer wish to buy it due to the A/C not working, please contact me.
