Vehicle Detail
On the auction block is a 1974 VW Thing. I bought this car almost 3 years ago as project car from a car dealership that was using it to draw attention to their business. I was told that the owners drove it up from the Keys and then i just sat in their car lot. I put plenty of time in trying to restore it, but i no longer have the time to work on it. As you will see, most of the work is done, just for fine tuning and minor work. This car has a clear title. I will try my best to cover every aspect of the vehicle as we go along. Any spare parts that I have, as well as the left over paint and supplies will be included in the sale. That also include a few repair books for that style VW. Exterior: All body work was done with fiberglass and filler. It was sanded down, primed and shot with a 2 stage paint(base coat & clear coat), wet sanded and buffed out. The front and rear bumpers were removed and painted with a single stage black enamel, then bolted back on. New chrome side mirrors were installed, as well as new tail light lenses and new chrome bezels for the headlight and headlight bulbs. New chrome turn signal housings were installed(one has rusted, but I have a secondary set that is included). VW logo was installed and painted black. There are 4 brand new tires with less than 1 mile of use on them. I also installed 4 new chrome hubs in the tires. There is some surface rust starting, but should buff out with no problem. There is a brand new windshield installed, as well as new wipers. All rubber and seals for the fenders and light housings are new. The only original rubber used is the windshield and door trim. There is a brand new convertible top installed, as well as 4 new side curtains. The door handles are original and need a good buffing. The under carriage has not been touched by me. The wheel wheels were under coated. Body wise there is a few spots on the lower quarter panel of both the driver and passengers sides that are starting to pimple. There is also a spot on the windshield that is starting to get a little rust spot. There are 2 little cracks where filler was on the front of the car.(see pics) Interior: The interior was sanded down, primed and sprayed with the 2 stage paint process, same as the exterior. I installed a CD player in the dash and 2 speakers under the dash. The floor pan was sprayed with a truck bed liner coating. The seats to my knowledge are original. They are in great shape. There is one tiny tear in the rear seat(see pic). The trunk compartment is standard with a spare tire and fuel tank. The truck was also primed and painted the same as the rest of the car. There really isnt much more to the interior than that...plain jane. Mechanically: The car does run, but is need of a tune up and/or timing adjustment. I replaced the carb and recently had it "dipped" to clean out any build up from sitting. I replaced the battery(currently dead from sitting), but under warrenty thru Walmart. The rear break lines were replaced and bled out. I do not know what condition the brakes are in. The engine is a VW engine that looks to be different that the original, so the milage is truely unknown. New fuel filter and spark plugs were installed. There is a small oil leak, maybe a few drops a day. I only moved the car a few times in and out of the garage, so the transmission seems to be fine. I believe i have covered everything, but if you would like specific picture or have a question that you would like answered, I will do my best to accomodate all requests. All parts were ordered from JBUGS in CA, The Thing Shop and Auto Haus AZ. Please include your email address in the question. There is NO reserve on this auction, so highest bidder wins. PLEASE only bid if you plan on paying. I will request that a 250.00 payment is made with in 24 hours of the auction's end and the remaining balance due at the time of pick up. I will accept cash, money order or a cashiers check. This is for local pick up and any delivery would be the buyers responsibility. Thank you for looking!!
