Vehicle Detail
Please read the following description, view the 24 attached photos, and view a total 101 photos at http://photobucket.com/1969ponyconvertible. If you have any questions after carefully reading the description and viewing the photos, please email me. I want you to be an informed buyer, because that will help to ensure we both end up happy. This 1969 Ford Mustang Convertible was originally equipped with: 302ci-2v motor, C-4 automatic transmission, Gulfstream Aqua paint, black interior, power black folding glass top, air conditioning, power steering, and power brakes. I have owned this car (my first) since the early 1990s. When I purchased the car, the odometer gear was stuck at 69,999 miles and the title showed the same. The car was restored at that time, with shock towers, floor panels, quarter panels, and the taillight panel being replaced. The motor and transmission were rebuilt, and a 9-inch rear axle was swapped in. The air conditioning system was removed from the car at that time and is not included in this sale. The car was then a triple-black beauty and placed 3rd in its first and only show. Since the mid-1990s the car has rarely been driven, and virtually not at all in the past ten years, while being stored outside. The current title shows 3,744 miles with a notation on the title that it is not the actual mileage, but it is a good representation of how many miles have been put on the car since its early 1990s restoration. Rust has taken hold of this pony's structure. The present day options for this car are (1) an extensive structural rebuild, including replacement of front torque boxes, inner rockers, rear torque boxes, rear RH frame rail, and floor (and potentially other issues I'm not aware of), prior to taking on a mechanical and cosmetic restoration; or (2) transfer of parts to a donor car. This car was to begin a complete restoration this month, until a restoration shop inspected the car's structure and identified the extensive problems noted above. Because I am not a welder and the cost to hire a specialist to perform the work is excessive compared to the car's resale value, I then began to look for a donor car. However, an opportunity came to purchase a restored classic car from a family member and I have decided to go that route. I recommend that you think hard about buying this Mustang unless you are prepared to undertake an expensive restoration that will substantially exceed the car's value or have a solid donor car onto which you can transfer parts. The 302 motor is bored .030 and has the following performance parts: forged pistons with enlarged valve reliefs; aluminum Edelbrock Performer RPM heads with the larger 2.02 valves, Harland Sharpe roller rocker arms, hardened rocker pushrods, aluminum Edelbrock Performer intake manifold, Edelbrock 600 cfm electric choke carburetor, Mallory dual point distributor, Accel coil, Taylor plug wires, double roller timing chain, and performance camshaft with hydraulic lifters (I do not have the cam specifications card). The block was magnafluxed and new bearings, seals, and rings were installed during the rebuild. The stock connecting rods were polished. When the motor is warm it has a tap, which (I'm speculating) might be caused by incorrect rocker arm/valve tip geometry as the rocker tip does not sit in the center of the valve stem. The motor recently began to blow some blue smoke, which (again I'm speculating) might mean the piston rings have not seated. It runs but due to the issues noted above I had planned to take it apart and rebuild it while replacing the cam/lifters/rocker pushrods to improve the valvetrain. The C-4 transmission was rebuilt and has a shift kit for stronger shifts. It retains the stock torque converter. The car has stainless steel transmission and fuel lines. The brakes are stock front power disk / rear drum. They are complete but need total restoration. The steering box is original and has excessive worm gear wear (beyond what you can simply adjust out of it). The rest of the steering components are good as far as I know. The rear axle is a Ford 9" with 3.55 gears, rebuilt in the 1990s. Present day, there is slap when putting the car into gear, which (I'm speculating) might be caused by bad universal joints or improper pinion/ring setting. A thicker front sway bar, a rear sway bar, and replacement rear leaf springs were installed. The wheels are 1990s Boyds (Boyd Coddington), 15x8 rear, 15x7 front, with a 15x7 spare. The tool for removing the center caps is included. The tires are dry-rotted. A new gas tank was installed about 2 years ago, when I began to work on the car again. The non-reproduction hood scoop was added in the 1990s and has functioning turn signal indicators. The interior includes a reproduction Carroll Shelby roll bar and quarter trim (from Tony Branda), a B&M shifter, and a 1990s Boyds steering wheel that resembles the wheels. The roll bar rubs the driver side convertible top frame -- thought to be caused by the car's underlying structural issues. There is a one-off custom gauge pod in the center dash a/c vent space. A 1990s Alpine car alarm system with interior motion detection is located under the carpet, and sells with the car. The Flo-Fit front seats and reproduction Ray Brown racing seat belts are not for sale. The body mainly has rust in the doors, around the trunk jamb, and on the hood. The shop advised that the hood has some damage and may need replacement. The passenger quarter panel was not fitted properly at the door jamb when the car was restored in the 1990s as you can see in photos. Everything that you can see on the car is being sold with the car except for the front Flo-Fit driver and passenger seats, Ray Brown seat belts and mounting hardware, and the Chevelle exhaust tips. I will be keeping those parts. The rear seat was reupholstered to match the Flo-Fit front seats, but cannot be used in my other car, so the rear seat is being sold with this Mustang. $500 PayPal deposit required within 24 hours of winning bid. Total sale price must clear my bank and be in my account before I will release the car and title paperwork. Buyer is responsible for pick-up or shipping. Sold as-is with no warranty. I am a longtime eBayer with few reviews because I have used eBay mainly to buy car parts for this car, which I will begin to list for sale separately (e.g., Dixco hood tach, console, Flaming River steering box, Shelby quarter scoops, etc.). However, I have a perfect eBay record and I expect this sale to be no exception. Do not send me emails asking to sell the car outside of eBay, etc. Please email me with any other questions after viewing all of the photos and the description. The car is currently located in Delaware and may be transported to Maryland during the auction process, so bidders should factor in the cost of picking up or shipping from either Delaware or Maryland.
