Vehicle Detail

1958 BMW 600 [sometimes known as BMW Isetta 600]. I bought this car many years ago from a wrecking yard in Moses Lake, Washington. At the time I was planning on putting it together with a chassis I knew of. An old man near me had a drivable BMW 600 frame [no body!] with a seat mounted on it that he would start up and run around his yard. I figured I’d put the two together and have the 600 I’d been trying to find for a long time. Funny thing was by the time I’d purchased the body and went for the running frame it was gone. Not only was it nowhere to be found but the old man had up and moved as well with no trace or trail … Disappointed yes, but I knew of another 600 nearby that had the rear half of the body cut off and included a ‘good’ engine. When I went to where I’d seen it last ... well it was gone too. I have stored this body for over 25 years waiting to get it running. Time to move it on to someone who has the parts or needs a body, etc. Very straight body, sun faded paint, surface rust [but a very thin layer] on the outside. Some rust: Rear seat floor near vertical seat ‘wall’. Right front/rear wheel wells [corners]. The front floor ‘chin’ section [still its solid enough to support me kneeling on it even though it is lacking some frame support]. Many various/rare parts are included but this car is incomplete. Missing the front suspension and a section of the frame [which was cut off and probably went with those parts]. The steering/pedal housing and a few other components are there but incomplete. No engine ... long gone before I got the car, but the engine compartment cooling tin is included. The transmission is there and mounted, input shaft turns freely, condition unknown. The gas tank appears to be complete and solid. Instrument cluster is complete, sun faded but gauges may work w/cleaning. Cardboard dash is there but very sun warped Ash-tray includes some original Mount St. Helens ash … the whole car used to have a copious internal dusting … Front door is solid and works well. Side door works, missing handle. Door/side panels are warped and broken but there may be enough to copy as patterns. Missing front seat. Rear seat is complete but upholstery is long gone, still enough is there to give ideas when re-upholstering. Both rear brake drums and assemblies included but no wheels; I never got any. Left rear axle is complete including flex donuts, right also includes inner shaft and donuts but is missing the outer axle stub. Wiring appears complete and unmolested. Heating/choke cables and levers assembly complete; Speedo cable still connected. Windshield wiper motor/assembly and pivots; fuse box, flasher all mounted and undisturbed. Glass is good, but the windshield has a vertical crack [see pics] on the right edge. I see no reason this BMW 600 can’t be repaired if you have or can locate the needed parts; best bet would be a rusted or incomplete donor. … Another idea would be to put in a newer, larger BMW motorcycle engine. A nice big twin, maybe w/fuel injection, etc. … the right person could make an amazingly fun and unique toy. No title: Original bill of sale from Moses Lake wrecking yard AND updated bill of sale from seller included [when vehicle is collected]. [Wrecking yard inventory ID number still clearly visible on roof]. Please take time and study the pictures … understand what it is you are bidding on. No guarantees are implied or given.
