Vehicle Detail
Up for your consideration a 1965 Triumph TR4 that runs good and drives nicely. This car had been setting stored away for 10+ years before I purchased it a little over a year ago. Once I got it home I removed the fuel tank and sent it off to be flushed. After I installed it and gave it some fresh gas, an oil change, a set of points and a hot battery, the car started right up and has been an easy starter ever since! The float bowl on the rear carburetor has a bit of a seep which I believe to be a gasket issue. It appears to have been restored some time prior to it's time of being out of service, and prior to my owning it. Having been in a building where many people had access to it and really didn't know what it was, it now has some dings and scratches from careless moves. Those will be shown in the photos. The doors, hood, deck lid, and windows all open and close nicely. The windshield has a scratch from a bad wiper blade, both door glass are fine. The check strap on the right door needs some repair, and there is a bad spot on the hood. As you will also see in the photos, this car appears to have been in an accident at some point in it's life, and the repair job is one of those where they cut through the inner fender to do their splice. Someone with a little ingenuity could take it apart and re do it leaving a much better looking finished product. As for the paint, like I said, it has some scratches & dings. It looks great from 15 feet. One could leave it as is, or give it a good block sanding & a re spray and have them self a very nice daily driver! I am trying to get hooked up with access to a hoist so I can get photos of the bottom side. It is very clean underneath and they would show how solid this car really is! If I can manage this, I will be adding them. So please, check back for updated information. Having been setting, it will need some attention before becoming a dependable & safe daily driver. It has the typical "sticky" brakes in which a pair of caliper kits and wheel cylinder kits would cure. As said, it runs & drives nicely but now and then a brake hangs up. The floor pans and rockers are very solid as is the base of the firewall where the battery sets. You will be able to see the areas of concern in the photos. The Amco top is in very nice condition for its age. There is one very small hole less than the diameter of a pencil. The windows are clear with normal use scratches. Other than some stains on the inside, all of the snaps are present and working. The top bow operates smoothly though one cloth strap will be need to be replaced. There is no tonneau or boot cover. All of the gauges work as do the dash lights. The electrical system is fully functional with the exception of the horn which works intermittently. The seats and carpets are in very nice condition for their age. You will see a small hole in the passenger seat, and a small spot on the drivers seat which isn't a hole, but a bad spot nonetheless. The top dash pad has a crack, but the lower crash pads are nice. You will also notice that the park brake lever is missing. Whoever did the previous restoration lost the bolt, however I do have the lever and a bolt that are part of this sale. The engine is the typical 4 cylinder with dual Stromberg carburetors. The exhaust is in good condition and sounds nice! The spoke wheels are in very nice condition and the Kumho tires show no signs of dry rot and have very nice tread. The transmission is a non overdrive 4 speed which shifts smoothly and is quiet, as is the the rear differential. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. With that, you can follow this link to photobucket where there are 39 pictures showing the condition of this car. http://photobucket.com/65triumphtr4 The time to ask questions is prior to bidding! I have done my best to describe this car as accurately as possible. If you would like to see a photo from an angle that I haven't provided, or if there is something that I have not covered, please feel free to ask. I am not the original owner of this car nor the one who did it's previous restoration. This car is 47 years old and I cannot offer any warranty or guarantee. I also cannot certify that the odometer reading is actual. The car is located in Des Moines Iowa near the airport. If you would like to stop by and have a look & take it for a drive, please contact me. My schedule is very flexible! Powered by eBay Turbo Lister The free listing tool. On May-08-12 at 11:29:02 PDT, seller added the following information: I have added an additional 28 photos to Photo bucket showing the interior, top, and just some others. On May-13-12 at 19:08:24 PDT, seller added the following information: As requested by an interested party, I did a magnet test on the entire car. Using magnetic business cards/ refrigerator magnets, I placed them in the areas where the TR4 is prone to rust and damage. As you will see, the car holds a magnet most everywhere. There is some filler in the drivers door and the front lower left fender right behind the wheel, and the front valance. The cracking of that area is visible in another photo on the photo bucket album. I haven't been able to get access to a hoist, so I will jack up the car and shoot some photos of the bottom as best as I can. I'd have done that this evening, but the camera battery died and I ran out of daylight. There are also some shots showing the condition of the chrome. The front bumper is very nice, as is the left tail light. There are only a few small blisters in the right tail light. The rear bumper is very straight, but the chrome does show it's age. There's no rust or blisters. The mirror is very nice as are the door handles, luggage rack and trunk "T" handle.
