Vehicle Detail

This listing is for a 1974 M.B. 450 SL which I bought for my son almost 10 years ago. I was a cardealer for 35 years and maintained the car stringently for the first 5 years, then he got a newer Benz and the car sat in my garage for 3 years and the last 2 years it sat outside in the sun. I put a new battery in it in 2008 and drove it 800 miles, when some dry rotted hoses gave out. Since that time someone broke into it and stole the radio and it just sat. Anyway I'm tired of having it sit here and now is the time for someone else to enjoy, restore, or part out the car. As for the body, it's solid with a few places starting to rust. It's not a rustbucket, the frame and floorboards are still good. The paint is sunfaded with the clear coming off on the hood. There are no dents or major scratches. The chrome is good all around, and the hard top is in very nice condition. The conv. top is not very good as I recall. Tires are good all around, though they maybe dry rotting. Mechanically, this is where I can't really say how it is because its sat for so long (dead battery) and to be fair I would say it needs a tune-up and as I recall exhaust manifold gaskets. The hoses should all be checked for dry rot and I would strongly recommend the car be towed home due to the uncertainty of mechanical condition. The tranny was replaced at 129k and I have the receipts, along with many other receipts. I wish I could give you more of a definitive description mechanically, but assume you'll have to spend some money to get her running right. The interior was dyed white when we got it, and it really needs a good cleaning due to the high humidity here. The console wood is peeling quite badly, the seats look okay, the carpeting is decent and overall there might be some items needed or missing due to the breakin. Overall the car would be a great weekend car with a little tlc, but it's also a great candidate to be totally restored, or it could simply be parted out. It's up to you to determine the value as I'm selling it at NO RESERVE. Thanks, and good luck.
