Vehicle Detail

This auction was originally started on Sunday, April 22. I ended the auction early due to an error in not listing my reserve price. Ebay would not allow adding the reserve to the active auction which forced me to end the auction and restart it with the reserve price. This auction is for a 1968 Oldsmobile 4-4-2 convertible with 32,294 actual miles. This is a matching number car with the original 400 cubic inch engine, 400 Turbohydramatic transmission, 3.23 posi (anti-slip) differential. It has the original Rally-pac instrument cluster, AM radio and parade boot. It has the original exhaust pipes and hangers. Mufflers and chrome exhaust tips are new. Original antenna mast was missing. I have a new, correct repro mast that is not installed. This car is also equipped with the original Rally II sport wheels. The original trim rings and center caps are in excellent condition. The Firestone F70 x 14 redline tires are new. The matching spare tire, wheel and center cap are original and have never been on the ground. The convertible top is original. Interior is all original except for the driver’s side bucket seat cover. Carpet is original. Trunk mat is also original. Car was repainted the original Jade Gold with urethane. Door jambs, inside the doors and inside the deck lid are original paint. Jacking instructions and other labeling inside deck lid are also original. Before repainting, all stainless trim was removed. Most of it was sent to Thompson’s refinishing in North Carolina for restoration. Bumpers, vent window frames and deck lid trim were sent to Tri-State Plating in Tennessee for restoration. Both these companies were highly recommended and did a beautiful job on everything I sent them. I have much of the original documentation including owner’s manual, protecto-plate book and other miscellaneous paperwork ( see photos). I had the back seat and fuel tank out during the restoration, but, did not find a build sheet. This has not been licensed or driven since the restoration was completed except for test driving around my neighborhood. I’ve decided to sell this car due to my age, 81, and some health issues that prevent me from being active in auto events. I acquired this car in 2005 from a friend who had owned it since 1986. There was no window sticker with the car, but, there is an invoice of the original owner (see photo), National Fleet Leasing Corporation of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This document lists options and prices like an original window sticker. Apparently, the factory didn’t use window stickers when a car was sold as a fleet vehicle to a leasing company. My friend bought the car and garaged it with the intentions of restoring it. Over the years, he did several other cars and just never got around to the 4-4-2. During his years of ownership, I approached him numerous times about selling me the car. He repeatedly insisted that he intended to restore it. My friend passed away before he got to restore the car. His only son inherited the car. After about a year of haggling with the son, I was finally able to acquire the car and restore it to its current condition. This is a really beautiful ’68 4-4-2. If you have any questions not covered in this description, please feel free to call Marlin at 304-542-4846. Winning bidder will be responsible for picking up and/or having car transported within 7 days of end of auction unless other arrangements are agreed to prior to the end of the auction. $5,000 deposit is expected within 48 hours of end of auction. Payment shall be in the form of cash, certified check or postal money order. Balance is expected when car is picked up.
