Vehicle Detail

This is a re-listing of a car which did not meet reserve at $12,000. I am setting the opening price at $7,000 which is one half of what I paid for the car. I have no room in the garage for this car due to a new acquisition. I am the 4th owner of this Trans Am. The vehicle is an all matching numbers unmolested survivor. I purchased the vehicle from a friend of a friend as an investment in 2007. It has been stored in a climate controlled environment since 2002, when the previous owner purchased it. In the last ten years, only 625 miles have been put on the car. It has been started and run monthly, and driven semi-annually during that period. It appears as though the two prior owners treated the car in the same fashion. This vehicle was originally purchased in Sault St Marie, Canada, and thus has a speedometer calibrated in kilometers. The original mileage is shown on the odometer as 76,200 k/m which equates to 47,350 miles. DOCUMENTATION: Many documents come with the car, including (but not limited to) the following: (1) original pouch provided by the dealership; (2) protect-o-plate and original owners manual complete with original owners name and address; (3) all doc's regarding warranty on tires/radio/etc; (4) Tuff-coat warranty (5) the salesman's card; (6) complete owner history; (7) transfer documents between Ontario Canada and Michigan and inspection receipts; (8) most maintenance receipts from 2002. Perhaps of most importance were the notes and other documents that I obtained from the elderly 3rd owner. His notes taken when he purchased the car reveal that it was sold to him as a "Gold Series Y-84 Special Edition." After he purchased the car he had the vehicle appraised by a current Ebay classic car dealership seller that referred to the car as "A highly sought after special addition Trans/ AM, series Y8A(?) option code." I obtained from Pontiac Historic Services all of the documentation on the car. The invoice states as follows: Pontiac Motor Division Detail of Canadian Shipments Date Shipped 05-22-78 CODE DESCRIPTION INVOICE AMOUNT W87Z Firebird Trans Am 4573.92 C49 Defroster, electric rear window 66.42 A01 Glass, All-windows soft ray 41.25 CC1 Hatch Removable 437.00 WW7 Hood Decal 46.15 B37 Mats, Front and Rear Floor 16.08 A31 Power Windows 89.50 WS6 Trans Am Special Performance Package 175.50 Y90 Custom Trim Group-Velour 93.69 Z49 Canadian Equipment Modification 3.50 Car Options Subtotal 5,543.01 Freight Charges 81.60 Invoice Total 5,624.61 All of the above documentation, local's trophies, and more comes with the car. ENGINE/DRIVETRAIN I firmly believe that you could drive this car anywhere. It is an original car that has been expertly maintained, which is obvious when viewing the pictures. It has no leaks or mechanical problems. I drives and shifts as it should, with no sounds other than the hum of the engine through Flowmaster exhausts that were installed. Over the last ten years, in addition to routine maintenance, the following maintenance has been done: Carb rebuild, rear main seal replacement, master cylinder rebuild, and brakes. Serviced with Royal Purple oil, K&N filters, etc. New radial tires were installed. Please see the pictures for further detail. INTERIOR The interior is in very good condition. The rear seat area appears as though no one has ever sat there. The only item that shows wear is the velour on the drivers seat and slight wear on the passenger seat. No cuts/burns/stains. Please refer to the pictures for further detail as I have paid particular attention to defects in the car. Note that the second owner took out the original radio and replaced it with a non-OEM radio. He also cut speaker holes and installed speakers in the rear deck. The rear deck being made of cardboard has warped over time. There are no signs of leaks from the removable glass roof panels anywhere inside the car and they do not leak under pressure wash. EXTERIOR The exterior shows no signs of any body damage or repair. It does show signs of chip damage to paint that is shown in the pictures. The pictures of the endura bumpers make the vehicle look worse than it is. But stupid me, I turned a small amount of damage in a paint chip into a big one at the car wash--yup that's it on the left front! I have also included pictures of areas where the paint has bubbled due to rust under the paint. I have done a thorough inspection for rust, and any rust is surface rust. There is absolutely no rust through and all body parts and panels are completely sound. Please review the pictures of the trunk and undercarriage to get an idea of what I am talking about when I say "surface rust." When you are reviewing the trunk, please note the contents of the trunk. Everything is original and in unused condition. VALUATION I am not representing the car as a Y84. However, it would be cheap and easy to turn it into a clone of a Y-84. Because this car is a matching numbers unrestored car, I would call it a #3 car under the Hagerty guidelines. It values a "plain jane" Trans Am at $14,500. NADA sets the average retail for the average Trans Am at $17,760. I paid $14,000 for the vehicle when I purchased it. This is a no reserve auction! Please refer to an excellent five page article in the March, 2008, Hemmings Muscle Machines magazine titled "Buyer's Guide 1978 Pontiac Trans Am--You thought performance died after '70" for further information regarding this car. I can fax you the article if you cannot find it online. REPRESENTATIONS I have been burned by ebay sellers before. I have described the vehicle and pointed out the flaws as best as I can. I want both of us being happy with the outcome of this purchase. I will cooperate in any way that I can with pre-scheduled vehicle inspection. That being said, the vehicle is being sold "AS IS WHERE IS". I reserve the right to cancel bids by bidders w/o feedback or negative feedback. I will not remove the vehicle from the listing so please do not contact me in an attempt to do so. I will not disclose the reserve amount, so bid expecting to win (see above). COSTS OF SHIPPING ARE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE PURCHASER. THIS TRANS AM IS BEING SOLD AS IS WHERE IS. Seller will cooperate in any way possible with pickup or shipping arrangements. TERMS OF SALE Winning bidder will post a non-refundable deposit of $1,000 within 48 hours of conclusion of auction to be paid via Paypal. Balance will be due within 10 days of purchase (or at delivery if within the 10 days) by cash, cashiers check, or certified funds.
