Vehicle Detail
Updated with photos and info! If you are considering a Land Cruiser for daily driving or overlanding, check this HJ61 out! Truly one of the greatest 4WD Toyotas, this is my Australian HJ61 G-package. (Aussie VIN of HJ61000229 won’t go into eBay’s 17-digit system, hence the all-zeros.) A rarity in the USA (especially with the factory turbo diesel, 5-speed and full floater axles), and built for overlanding/expeditioning.Update for those who asked: the Land Cruiser is registered and listed on the title as a diesel in Washington state so California registration should be no problem. It's powered by the mighty 12H-T turbo diesel engine, a 6-cylinder, 4.0L powerhouse. The turbo diesel engine runs fantastic. Starts right up immediately even when cold. Puff of white smoke at start, then clears and purrs. All six injectors were overhauled, all tappets adjusted, and turbo boost checked (11psi) 25,000 miles ago--receipt for work will go with the truck. This truck has TORQUE. Step on the throttle and it gets up and moves. There is nothing like a 12H-T! It blows away the four-cylinder 13B-T and the 3B, 2F or 3FE aren't even close. The 12H-T is also one Toyota's most reliable diesel engines; 500,000 miles before a rebuild is common, and their rugged design and good diesel fuel economy makes it an excellent engine for overlanders. The engine is paired with the highly desirable Toyota H55F 5-speed transmission. Highway speeds are no problem. All five gears and reverse engage smoothly. And, the H55F has a compound low first gear. This truck will climb a tree. Literally. You engage 4-wheel drive High Range electronically, with the push of a button, which is quite handy. Low range requires the good old transfer case lever. Hubs are factory manual Aisin. The “G” package denotes higher-grade options, with cloth versus vinyl seats, split front bench seats, power door locks, air conditioning, zone-specific rear heater (see photo), and floor carpeting. All add up to a much nicer driving experience than a bare bones truck.12V electrics, with dual battery setup. Batteries are NEW units from Costco with 1000 cranking amps. Full floater rear axle. US-spec 40 and 60-series never got these, which are much more rugged than semi-floaters. Old Man Emu 2” suspension lift and steering stabilizer. 31” Pro Comp Mud Terrain tires on 15” Cheviot wheels. Plenty of room for bigger tires. Interior is in great condition! Very clean and original. No tears in the seats, fronts have the “TURBO” stitching, rear carpet has a small tear and a couple of stains. Headliner is in fantastic condition as well. Original "Toyota" floor mats! This HJ61 has essentially zero rust! The floorboards present as new. Ditto for the rear cargo area. See photos! All of the original sound deadening material is there, too! There is minor surface rust on the frame and leaf springs, and a touch on a bit of tree rash on right side over the wheel well. If you are looking for a rust free, turbo diesel Land Cruiser, this is it! Nitpicks: oil pan drain plug has a slow leak, tree rash and minor rust over one wheel well, cigarette lighter missing, paint is sun bleached on sides, back and hood with some clear coat flaking, and some of the windows roll down pretty tough. I have a new in-door replacement window regulator new in wrapper if desired. Full length Australian-made TJM roof rack in great condition will go with the Land Cruiser. Perfect for camping trips, extra gear, fuel cans, or a rooftop tent. I've taken the Land Cruiser on several such trips and she's always been great! Seats six comfortably with all six seat belts. Original super rare HJ61 owner’s manual AND original Toyota tool kit! Aluminum side steps.Power steering. JVC CD player with iPod input. Safari Snorkel for deep water crossing and for cleaner air, high up away from dusty roads.Dual air horns for a little extra blast on road or trail.Receiver hitch and trailer wiring harness, and Hayman-Reese trailer brake booster unit.Rare factory inclinometer. Oricom UHF communication radio.ICE COLD air conditioning! I encourage any and all questions, tire kickers and test drives welcome! This Land Cruiser is a rare, awesome truck. 99.9% rust free, engine has tons of torque and power, lovely A/C, roof rack, and it’s a 6-cylinder turbo diesel! Whether for long distance expeditioning or daily driving, it’s a solid, dependable truck, in great condition, with that excellent diesel fuel economy as well. 1986 means no smogging needed for California buyers. I would not hesitate to drive this Land Cruiser cross-country tomorrow. Happy to help with transport, can meet or deliver within 20 miles of Gig Harbor, WA. No PayPal, sorry. Cash or cashier’s check only, full payment within seven days of auction end. Clear title. Sold “as is” with no stated or implied warranties. No reserve! Please feel free to ask questions. Thank you!
