Vehicle Detail
0 false 18 pt 18 pt 0 0 false false false Up for sale is my 1974 Land Cruiser FJ40. I bought it to get me through the winter and winter’s over. It’s in great shape and has no mechanical issues. It has just under 53,000 miles on the rebuilt engine (work done by previous owner). The four wheel drive works great (manual locking hubs turn smooth too), the transmission shifts easily (four speed on the floor), the engine runs strong with no pings or knocks, all the gauges work, the carburetor is freshly rebuilt, the engine doesn’t smoke or overheat, and the best part is… it’s all original (the fuel return on the carb was disconnected, but all the linkage is still there if reconnection is desired). As for the body, the previous owner removed all the rust and replaced it with body armor (see photos). The rear corner guards are aluminum diamond plate and the sides were done with 20 gauge sheet metal. It was all tastefully done to keep an original appearance and honestly looks great. The lower rear doors look like they have rust bubbles, but that’s actually a rock hard POR 15 body filler (and it’s definitely hard as a rock). The front fenders are a little banged up, and there are a few dents in the hardtop and doors, but other than that, it looks great. The undercarriage and frame were freshly painted too with black, rust preventative paint. Also, the entire body was painted with a dark red that very closely matches the factory color (I know because the interior is still factory and you can hardly tell the difference), and the fiberglass top was freshly painted as well. All the paint was applied with a standard paint brush and rust preventative paint. And, there’s roll on bedliner on the interior floor. The radio works, but does not have speakers. The seats, both front and fold down rear, need reupholstering but the frames are in great shape. The spare tire carrier is an aftermarket fold down, but works well. It has a great tow bar on the front that can be connected to any 2” ball hitch for easy towing. The windshield has a crack, but the rest of the glass is great. I added a coolant expansion tank to the engine. There is some rust under the roof lip above the windshield wipers (pictured), but nothing serious. The front doors and rear hatch/doors have new weatherstripping. The tires are in good shape and all have about 50-70% tread left. The brakes work great, but pull to the right a bit. I replaced one wheel cylinder on the passenger side, so that might be why. All drum brake pads have lots of life left. The shocks, steering stabilizer, and tie rod boots are new and all fluids are fresh (including differentials)/everything is greased. Included is a new outer window seal kit with clips. There is a small leak near the bottom of the transmission, but it doesn’t affect the fluid level. It’s a great FJ and a true legend. I hate to part with it, but the fuel economy is breaking the bank (pretty common with these). It’s a head turner that I just don’t need anymore. If I can think of anything else, I’ll update my description, but please don’t hesitate to ask any questions. I have a clear Colorado title in my name in hand. Thanks! On Apr-22-12 at 19:51:13 PDT, seller added the following information: Some other things to mention: included in the sale is a Hayes Repair Manual, the 1974 Owner's Manual (reprint), a spare alternator, and a few other smaller spare parts including an extra set of points. To answer a similar question I've received from others: the floor boards were repaired with riveted sheet metal . As this was done by the previous owner, there's no telling what's underneath the bed liner, but I can vouch for the floor board solidity all the way around. Everything is sound and there are no holes or questionable areas to speak of. The steering box has a very small leak that I forgot to mention in the original description. It's probably not even worth mentioning, but I just want to include every detail I possible can about the vehicle's condition. Feel free to ask me anything else and I will try and give you the best description/answer available. At the end of the day, I just don't want anyone surprised with their purchase. Thanks again.
