Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is one of the most original 1970 Mach 1’s you will see. Winner of many MCA Modified Gold awards. You will find Mach’s out there that have been restored and redone to suit someone else’s tastes, but you will find very few this original. I purchased this car many years ago from a collector that had several in his collection and was thinning the herd, which is what I am doing. Although I have no way of knowing what has been done mechanically to this Mach, the engine appears to be original. The Grabber Blue paint is almost perfect with the matt black hood stripe setting it all off. I have the build sheet which I found under the passenger seat when replacing the carpet, which is the only restoration I have done. The interior is in very good shape with one small blemish on the driver’s seat which is probably easily repaired. There is also a hole in the headliner but it is above the sun shade and not noticable. The rim blow steering wheel works as does the clock. The radio has been replaced with a Kenwood stereo with rear speakers. I must assume the mileage on the odometer has turned once. According to the Marti Report and the build sheet this car has all of it’s original equipment except for Argent steel wheels, which are still available, but you will not find a picture of a Mach with these wheels on it. Apparently owners immediately switched out these wheels for the Magnum 500’s which were not an option on the 70’ Mach 1. Many people are surprised that it has a 3 speed manual, but once you drive this car you realize that 380 ft/lbs of torque and 300 HP will set you back in your seat and more gears are just a waste of time and effort. The drivetrain in this Mach is very strong and I have driven it hundreds of miles to shows with no worries. The manual steering is responsive and quick. I own many mustangs and this one garners more attention than any of them. But I just don’t get to drive it enough and it needs to be driven more. You cannot take this car anywhere without having to answer many questions. This car was built December 1969 in the Metcuchen plant for Whaley-Dailey Ford Sales in Conyers, GA. I have many more pictures and can answer any questions should you desire more information. Although shipping arrangements are up to the buyer, I will assist in any way I can to expedite the process. For the winning bidder I will require a $500 deposit within 48 hours.
