Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a 1991 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser station wagon with 146,000 miles. Runs very well despite being 21 years old. Body has a few minor dents and scrapes; the hood has paint chips near the front and middle areas. The title is CLEAR. I'll describe the good and the bad about the car: The good: A/C still works very good and blows out good cold air. Transmission is the original 700R4 4-speed automatic OD; No leaking and shifts fine with no hesitation during shifts, only a slight jerk during full throttle upshifts and downshifts. Both power driver and passenger seats work, as does power door locks and mirrors. Has the owner's manual in glovebox. Rear View mirror has compass and map lights. Rplaced the following sensors: TPS, coolant temp, MAP, coolant level, intake air temperature. The following new parts replaced/installed: New radiator, water pump, and fan clutch, new thermostat and housing, new upper and lower radiator hoses, new spark plugs and wires, new distributor cap and rotor, new remote ignition coil, new air filter, new tires installed Jan 2012, new wiper blades front and rear, new rear pinion oil seal installed, oil/filter changed at 145,100 miles and replaced the catalytic converter with a MagnaFlow Direct-Fit Cat. All gauges still function and no warning lights on with car on/driving. Checked for any trouble codes and none appeared. Has a glass vista roof located at the second row seating area. Has 3rd row rear facing seat for two additional passengers. Rear door opens as either a door or tailgate. The headliner is in great shape and is not sagging. AM/FM Cassette still works, including cassette player. Self Leveling Air Suspension still works. You'll hear a motor running near the rear wheels sometimes, that is the air suspension. Okay, now for the bad: Leaks oil. Looks like it is coming from the rear main seal or oil pan. It drips only after the car is shut off after a drive. I've added about 1 quart about every 1000 miles give or take. Has blue smoke sometimes on first start-up when car is cold. I've been told this is sometimes due to oil staying on the upper cylinder heads after cooldown. Once warmed up it blows no smoke. It has a small exhaust leak at the inlet of the catalytic converter. When I installed the Direct-Fit MaganFlow Cat the pipe coming down from the exhaust manifold was warped so there is a slight air gap between the inlet side of the cat and where the manifold pipe goes into the Cat inlet side. A simple weld will fix this. The exhaust now sounds like a somewhat quiet straight pipe when accelerating because of this. The rear end is whining when accelerating bewtween 20 and 60 MPH. I've been told it could be a bad pinion bearing, others say that's just common of the GM 8.5 in. 10 bolt. It does not affect the driving at all and seems to be more of an annoyance than anything. The valve cover on the driver side was leaking when I bought this car. The previous owner stated he replaced both of them. However, upon inspection it looked like they were never touched at all. I used some Permatex Black RTV oil resistant silicone around the back of the valve cover and some Red high temp RTV silicone also and it appears to have stopped leaking. There is a slight rattle on the driver side front end of the suspension during driving and sometimes when turning. Not sure what it could be but I am including some new suspension parts along with the car. All power windows are inoperative except for the front passenger window. I removed the cruise control cables and control unit due to the fact it did not work. The rear window defogger is also inoperative due to the soldered leads rotting off after 21 years. There is a large tear on the seam of the driver's seat between the middle where the armrest comes down and the right edge of the driver seat. The carpeting on the driver side also has two good size holes near the left side of the floor but still has the sound deadener intact. The front door speakers are inoperative. The rear speakers still work good. The HVAC control panel has a few cracked buttons, but they still function well. It does have some surface rust located below near the rocker panel between the doors on both sides when opened. I have tried to explain everything I know about the car, good and bad. Keep in mind this is a 21 year old car and it was in poor maintained condition when I bought it. I worked hard to get it running like it should but now simply have no need of it anymore. I am including some new parts I purchased online to go with the car when it is sold. They include: front inner and outer wheel bearings and seals, fuel pump with strainer, front shocks, pinion bearing and cup, front brake pads, upper and lower ball joints, and one valve cover gasket.
