Vehicle Detail
I rescued this car about ten days ago. I brought it to DMV, registered it for new title, and got a permit good though 4/12/12. I have washed the exterior, checked all the basic fluids, charged the battery, emptied the gas tank, and gave her a full tank of premium. It started right up and has run great. In the last ten days I put about 180 miles on it, running through hot and cold cycles and have discoved no problems. Note in the pictures that I did not clean under the hood, in the truck, or interior. GENERAL DESCIPTION; The exterior is really straight with rust in both of the front doors. These were replaced at different times and with new doorrs, this car would be largley rust free. The interior is in good condition with the front door panels have speaker holes knocked into them, and the 2 inch holes in the top of the doors are missing the tweeters. The rest of the panels are excellent. The roof liner is excelent, just needs a cleaning. All the glass is good, and the window regulators work well and all the windows go up and down just as they should. It has an electric sunrof that works, but it a bit slow. Needs a bit of lube. All the light work, even the interior gauge light for night. The wipers work with all funtions but they too could use a greasing up. Needs wiper blades. Heater and defrost work on all funtions. The stereo lights up, but no sound comes out. The bucket seats are out of a newer car and I think they are ricaros, but you be the judge. It starts, runs, shifts, and stops nice with the exception of the tires have a vibration due to dead tire syndrom. Have documentation on a new factory motor installed 35 thousand miles ago. The body is in great shape with no dents and no major scratches. Rust in both doors can be seen in photos. almost forgot, all the gauges work including the clock. SOME BAD STUFF; Door panels have tweeter holes with no speakers. The hazard button is held in the down position with a peice of plastic so that the turn signals will work correctly. Left headlight is not adjusted properly and has a little peice of wood jammed behind the bulb in an attept to aim it. Im not sure bu it does look like all the parts are there. Sun roof and wipers need a grease up so they can work with less effort. There are two peices of fuel line under the hood that are not rated as fuel line and should be changed out. The tires have dead spots from being parked for six years and although they have worked themselves out a bit since I have been driving it, there is a noticable vibration at certain speeds.Tread at 60 percent. Needs muffler as it has some holes. It is not noticabley loud. The spare tire well has a few holes from rust in the bottom on the flat part only. PAINT; The paint it ok for a daily driver. rust spots show on both doors, moslty the passenger side. These doors were replaced and the paint blend on the passenger side faded more on the door than the rear quarter so you can see a color change. Slight fade on the areas like roof top, hood and truck, but looks like a rubbing compound could improve this. RUST; Mostly in the two doors, some on bottom of the spare tire well. I saw a thing on the internet about the eighteen spots on these that are likley to have rust and I could find rust on only three or four places on the list. Most importantly is the the shock towers are fantastic and solid as a rock. (pictures of both). INCREDIBLE DOCUMENTATION; I was so lucky to find a pile of ducumentation with the car right from the service delivery tag showing 9 miles on its delivery 10/6/76 in Elpaso Texas. comes with the factory service log filled out with all the oil changes and services as due. Hand book/owners manual,BMW service locations handbook covering Africa, US, Asia, and Australia. Original factory Baupunkt mamual, original factory blaupunkt service locations worldwide, original Blaupunkt radio wiring diagrams. (Note radio not present in car.) Also included is the in car service log started in 1979 when the second owner took possesion. It has a record of repairs, oil changes locations and all kinds of cool info. This log has notations all the way to 2005 when the car was placed in storage. INCREDIBLE RECIEPTS HISTORY. Here is a sampling of the more than 50 reciepts 10/6/76 - car delivered to new owner in Elpaso Texas. 12/12/79 - car purchased by second owner in Texas from Avis auto Leasing with 37,051 miles. OBVIOUS QUESTIONS; #1 - yes I would rive it long distance to get it home. It has given me no problems, and so I have no reason to think I would not make it. Would I drive it accross country before addressing some issues? Most likley not. #2 No Reserve, let the auction run, start it at three bucks. This has allways been my policy and I will not change it now. Do not ask foir buy it now price, just bid what you feel comfortable. #3 I will help with meeting shipper to anywhere in the world, but all funds are paid in advance and I will set a timley claering date for such funds. If ou are local you can bring cash. I can deliver to the seattle area or up I5 from Portland as I go there once a month . This is a good way if your not in a huge hurry. Payment must be made within 5 days of winning bid and auctione end. #4 I have titled it my name to insure no problems with new title. I will sign over temp title and write bill of sale, then send you signed title when it arrives in the mail. Should come within a week of auctions end. There is a temp permit in the back window good till 4'12'12. After that, its your deal. Feel free to ask questions, and you can even call me. David 503 380 9851
