Vehicle Detail
Thanks for looking at my beloved 2002. I've owned and enjoyed her since 8/2004 but don't have the time for it anymore so hopefully she'll go to someone who will appreciate and enjoy her as much as I have. Very hard to find an 02 in this shape in the northeast, or anywhere else for that matter. Car is currently registered, state inspected, and driven in good weather only, no cobwebs! My reserve price is set quite a bit lower than NADA and KBB guides for this vehicle in this condition, so it's a good opportunity to own a beautiful 02 at a good price. I'll be absolutely honest about everything, as the car is 38 years old, and certain quirky things are part of owning these cars, so I'll list those as well. Odometer says 68,884 miles but has never worked (common in these cars), so true mileage is unknown. Title shows 9,999,999 from the RMV. I doubt it's that much! Of course serious bidders may contact me with specific questions. The car is being sold as is with no warranties implied. Car is currently in Medford, about 5 miles north of Boston. OVERALL CONDITION: Beautiful! A good 8 1/2 out of 10 or a B to B+. The car was garaged under my ownership and never saw salt or snow. When I purchased it from a dealer I had the car gone through by Lindy at Little Foreign Auto in Waltham, MA. He's an 02 expert and owner and said it was one of the cleanest he had seen in a long time. The car has been repainted at some point, he thought in probably the late 90's, and it was a top notch quality job. Inka is arguably the coolest, most desired color on these models and the paint shines like hell. You will get thumbs ups, smiles, honks and conversations from strangers wherever you go. I'll miss that! EXTERIOR: Good glass and brightwork, excellent shine. Car has the basketweaves and sits on new tires with less than 500 miles on them. Original spare and jackset in trunk. The pics of the car will do the talking. There is very slight rust starting to appear on the passenger door window trim sill. Not noticeable until you get right up on it. An easy fix, and exact match spray paint will come with the car. Frame and underbody is clean as the car has obviously never seen salt. Door handles work but locking mechanisms starting to get finicky, so new owner may at some point replace them. They are easy to find on Ebay, where I bought most of my parts for this car. All lighting in working order at last check last week. INTERIOR: Awesome! I personally installed a 320is steering wheel and used 320is factory Recarro seats to keep you planted. The seats are in very nice shape with slight surface cracking on passenger bolster. They cost $500 used and are hard to find. The old salt and pepper original carpet came out (smelled kind of funky) and I put in a black 15 piece carpet set. To round out the sporty look I was going for, I installed a VDO gauge kit (oil tempature connection needs hookup at drain plug) and racing pedals. Sony XPlode stereo with CD (antenna wire became disconnected so static on stereo, CD works fine). Racing pedals just add to the coolness. Headliner nice and clean, no rips, backseat like new. New seatbelts and anchors, leather shift wrap, E-brake rubber boot, and such. Ashtray faceplate is glued on, was like that when I got it, looks fine though. Dash has slight crack on top that all 2002's seem to get. This one isn't bad at all though and was there when I bought the car and hasn't gotten worse, so never bothered me but it could easily be filled. All lights work except for the fasten seat belt light on dash, wipers and heat/blower operational. I have the original "bus seats" and "truck" steering wheel if the new owner wants them, but only if a local sale, not worth the cost to ship. MECHANICALLY: Engine is the durable and reliable 2.0 litre carb that starts right up. The car is manually choked for warm up, old school! Very quick and well maintained with newer starter, alternator, radiator, K&N lifetime air filter (oil to clean). Very easy and fun to work on, parts are readily available and affordable. Another quirky issue with these engines is the valve stem seals that wear, resulting in blue smoke under heavy acceleration and deacceleration in gear. My driving habits don't allow for that so it doesn't smoke the way I drive, but the car will come with a rebuilt cyclinder head with carb attached and new gasket set. Easy weekend project or quick mechanic bolt and go! Cost me $450 on Ebay, impulse buy! The head has approximately 500 miles on it, according to the seller who was highly rated. Like all older cars, she uses a bit of oil, so every few weeks she drinks some, but the new head would take care of that. 4 speed shifts perfectly and the clutch is good, very tight brakes. Tracks and handles better than any car I've ever owned, a blast to drive. In addition with the car I'll include all manuals, receipts, and a box of extra goodies and smaller things like shift knobs and smaller parts that will be good to have as well as a new timing chain and rails, new packaged gasket sets, etc. that I won't need anymore. I was going to install all of that with the new cylinder head while I was in there. If the winning bidder is interested, I also have a brand new performance header and a brand new full center exit, chrome tipped Ansa perfomance exhaust system, a 320is 5speed gearbox, and a Fireball electronic ignition module new in box. I'll let these go at a superb deal, but won't include as part of the car purchase. I'd prefer to sell locally to the northeast for convenience, of course, but if shipping needs to happen than I will assist, but buyer is fully responsible for payment and arrangement. My preferred way of communication and contact is email, but will of course telephone at request. Don't need calls at 3 in the morning ;) My name is Jan-Christopher, and GOOD LUCK!
