Vehicle Detail
If you are interested, please read this entire description. There is a lot to cover here. So I have decided to sell both my Goldwings and my entire collection of GL1000 parts and pieces. This ad is going to be broken down into three sections. The first being a description of the 1977 Blue GL1000, the second a description of the 1979 Black GL1000 and lastly a section individually describing each part to the best of my ability. My goal is to avoid parting out this collection and sell everything as a lot. Everything has been kept in a heated garage and has been meticulously maintained for the entirety of my ownership. Also please note that both bikes come with clear Pennsylvania titles that are in my name and ready to transfer. There are about 70 pictures in this album. If you are interested, please take a look at them now. · 1977 Honda GL1000, Blue - As you can probably tell by the photos and video, this bike looks and runs fantastically for a 35 year old machine.About four years ago this bike had a motor swap from the 1977 listed below. I kept the original speedometer installed, so although the displayed mileage of 61,XXX is correct, the motor has under 20k. There is some fading and discoloration on the top shelter and some surface rust here and there, but overall this is as good as it gets, short of a complete restoration. The bike starts and runs great with no valve noise and no leaks. The front tire is a Dunlop D404F with 50% tread left and the rear is a Avon Roadrider with 70% left. An aftermarket Wolo fog horn has been installed which is extremely loud and there is a 12 volt accessory plug under the top shelter which is very handy for powering GPS units or charging cell phones. Also there is a extra large Enterprise windshield installed which works very well and there is a set of fog lamps installed on the crash bars with a toggle switch at the bars. At the beginning of last season a new battery, new plugs and a new set of points were installed and timed. The temperature gauge and fuel gauge do not work. It had inspection through the end of May 2011. The oil was changed every 2500 miles with Honda GN4 SAE 10W-40 Dino. The two pictured rear panniers (can't remember the name brand) have been powder coated black and have a matching rear top box, which is shown in the parts section. There is a proprietary plug installed under the left shelter for the included Vetter Windjammer fairing for easy plug and play instillation if desired. · 1979 Honda GL1000, Black - This is the donor bike that the engine in the 1977 originally came from. I'm going to talk about what is currently on the bike since there is obviously a lot missing. First off, it has the highly desired aluminum rims that were only offered a handful of years. All of the rivets are still tight on these and they are in fantastic shape. I considered swapping these rims over to the 77, but I wanted to keep the original spoked wheel look. There are Cheng Shin Marqus tires on the front and the back with about 90% on the front and 80% on the rear. The entire electrical system is still intact with the exception of one small loom which is described in the parts section. With the exception of the motor, this is a complete bike with the original shocks, bars, cables, indicators, speedometer, shelters, seat, brakes, fenders, frame, radiator, horn, instrument panel, and kick stand still installed. There is a Vetter Windjammer IV (serial number 37-486915) front fearing installed and both of the turn signal lens covers (known to fall off) are intact. The Windjammer was hardwired by the previous owner and the proprietary plug has been removed. The bike was inspected in Pennsylvania until August of 2009. The seat shown on the bike is a custom seat that I often moved over to the 77, but once again I preferred the original look. Once the motor conversion on the 77 was done I had intention to rebuild the motor and have two running bikes, but that never happened. · Parts and Pieces - Please note that the majority of these pieces came from the motor that came out of the 77, but there are also many additional parts that were purchased along the way. Many of these parts were either unused or purchased in lots on eBay with the intention of building two complete running bikes. I've divided these parts into lot numbers.. If you go look at the pictures, this will make a lot more sense. · (01) - At the top are the two motor halves that came from the 77. The crankshafts and pistons are still installed. Most of the bolts were replaced in their original location for ease of reassembly. The box on the right has the cam shafts, cam chains and journals. The bottom left has the two heads with the valves, which were media blasted to remove carbon build up. In the middle is the rear case with stator still installed. On the right is the cam spring shaft. On the bottom right is the starter and front case section. · (02) - The left is the magneto. The middle is the clutch basket and the right is the clutch plates and springs. · (03) - On the top left is a complete set of carburetors with the intake manifold still attached. On the bottom left is a set of carbs that have been disassembled. All eight of these pictured Keihin carbs bear the "764A" factory mark. On the top right is a fuel pump, oil filter cover, and cam sprocket. The bottom right is four intake boots. There is also four spark plug boots, one fuel screen, one points cover, and two other unknown parts.· (04) - Here is two un-matching rear view mirrors and two inner timing belt holders. · (05) - Here is the original Vetter Windjammer IV fairing (serial number 37-157098) that came with the 77 when purchased. The original proprietary plug is still intact and both turning lens covers are still there. This Vetter has a +5 windshield and has matching blue pinstripes parallel to the original ones. Below the Vetter, is a Cyclesound CB/AM/FM stereo radio that is made to fit and work in conjunction with the Windjammer. I've never tried to turn it on but always thought it would be neat to install a current marine radio in it. · (06) - Starting from the top are four valve covers. The first two are aftermarket chrome pieces with Goldwing emblems. The bottom two are original Honda. Below them are two front timing belt covers. They have some oxidation. Next are four front brake pads in like new condition. · (07) - This is the entire stock exhaust from the 77. The chrome on the muffler tips and covers is good but the headers are oxidized and a bit dented. Both are still functional. · (08) - On the top are two Honda branded timing belts and on the bottom are two original Honda headlight assemblies. The one in the bag on the left is brand new. · (09) - At the top is the powder coated matching top box that I mentioned earlier. It had a LED brake light on the back and a passenger cushion on the front. Below is a full aftermarket trailer hitch kit. Its model #93-447 and comes with the original instruction booklet and mounting hardware, which is in the Tupperware container. Next to that is an extra coolant overflow tank. · (10) - Starting from the top are two engine mounts, two upper chrome carburetor mounts and two factory horns. Please note that the 79 parts bike also has a factory horn installed. Following that is an extra air filter. · (11) - From the left are two driver foot pegs and four passenger pegs. Below that is a radiator guard and a lower coolant hose. · (12) - On the top is an aftermarket seat called the "Hang 2" it bears the part number GL1000-TMC-00. It has some tears in the drivers seat, but the passenger section is like new. Next are two fenders. There is some small dents in the front fender but the chrome on them is still good. Below that are two accessory compartments that go under the top shelter. · (13) - This is a pair of front shocks that were purchased from eBay and never used. They are in fantastic shape and have zero pitting. I paid top dollar for these and never used them. · (14) - First is a factory tool kit with all the original tools and fabric roll up. Next are three separate ignition coils and spark plug wires. In between them is a brake indicator switch and a spare condenser. In the upper plastic bag is a Prestolite electronic ignition kit (there is a close up picture of this in my photobucket album). I have installed this kit and can verify that it works. Directly below that is a set of points and mounting hardware. · (15) - On the top left is a mounting bracket for the Vetter Windjammer and a piece of the coolant hose. Below that is a stock kick starter (yes the 77 had a factory kick starter) and a heel to toe shifter, along with a stock shift lever. On the right is a front fender brace. Below that is a set of Triple A running boards and original mounting hardware. At the far right is a set of rear shocks that are in fantastic shape. · (16) - Here are three crash bars, a shaft drive seal and an air box lid. · (17) - On the left is the remainder of the factory wire harness from the 79. Next to it is a spare speedometer cable. To the left of that is a container that houses all the spare nuts and bolts that accumulated. · (18) - On the left is a Clymer owner's manual. Next to it is a official Honda service manual. This is not a photocopied version, but a original version that all Honda shops received to service these bikes. The small blue book on the top is the factory owners manual from the 79.· (Not Pictured) – Two more Vetter Windjammer fairings. One is white with an extra tall windshield in really good shape and the other is maroon with a cracked shield. Also is an extra seat that I forgot to include in the pictures. It has a small tear near the front but is in usable condition. This lot is priced to sell. I will be moving soon and need to clean out the garage.Pick up and Shipping: For obvious reasons, I will not be shipping this lot.
