Vehicle Detail

Up for bid ---my 1976 MR250 Enduro---I bought this bike last fall to compete in AHRMA races but now am moving on to some new projects---this is a good solid racer or excellent core bike for a total restoration---in preparing it to race I have replaced the front fork seals and polished the lower tubes---overhauled the top end by boring and fitting a first over Wiseco piston set---cleaned the tank and carburetor---replaced both levers---after the race I deep cleaned it --replaced the rear fender with a DC Plastics fender---replaced the countershaft sprocket and chain---rear sprocket is still good----did some paint touch up and blasted and refinished the exhaust system----also during the race I threw a chain breaking a section of the side case---I had it welded (see the pictures---I did not paint the area for visibility)---This bike had a set of Progressive shocks and newer tires when I bought it and they are still in pretty good shape. It starts good , runs good, shifts good. There are some things that could be addressed better--for one thing-a more thorough cleaning of the tank-lights don't work (bulbs?)--odometer worke4d through the first day of the race then quit---I replaced the cable but it is not reading correctly---and the carburetion is still a little fat (rich)-I also know a guy that races one of these --he replaced the carb ( which were prone to problems) with a 34mm Mikuni and the spark arrester with a smaller silencer---FMF makes a nice one--(-the stock spark arrester weighs like 14 pounds!!! ) and was very happy with the performance gains--these were typical of the modifications to these bikes back in the day---still lots of articles available on modifications, tests and such. This is a good bike to go vintage cross country racing on---and though it has a heavier flywheel, heavier frame and a wide ratio transmission, shares enough heritage with the Cr's to make a decent novice MX racer----As I mentioned it would also make a good core bike for a total restoration since the original parts are still on it if you need a MR to complement your CR collection hanging over the lodge fireplace!
