Vehicle Detail
This Transporter was purchased in California, and lived most of its life there. It still carreis a Cal Berkeley window decal. Some years back, upon the owners passing, it was brought Idaho by the family, and has been here since. For the past decade, it has been driven only occasionally during the summer months, usually for camping. I purchased the bus a couple years back, and have driven it little since. It was originally Tobacco Brown, and had been painted a metallic tan many years ago. I agonized over what color to paint it, as the tan had faded terribly. I remembered that back in the 70's I had repainted a Porsche, which was Peru Red. I loved that color, and have wanted to paint something the same color since then. Hah, Here it is!!!! The color looks great on this critter, especially with the ivory top. All the flat glass is perfect, and thee is one small chip in the windshield, up in the shaded top area. The rubber seals are fine. The seats need to be recovered, as shown in the photos. There is, and never has been, any rust in the body of this puppy. The underside has surface rust where the undercoating has fallen off. Light surface rust, that's it. It runs great, steers great, brakes great, is a strong runner, and as far as I know, has never had the engine out. It has leaked some oil, probably from sitting, but since I have been driving it, it hasn't leaked a drop. It could stand a set of tires, and a set of shocks. I would not be afraid to travel cross-country in it as it sits!!! It would just handle better and ride better with new stuff. Everything works, including the Blaupunkt Radio. Should you have questions, please feel free to call or email. Thanks for looking, Bruce (208) 453-8606 Leave a message if I miss the call, as I'll return promptly. On Feb-29-12 at 17:46:09 PST, seller added the following information: Hey!!! Based on a couple of questions, I am adding more info and a couple pics. The pics are of the floorboard in front of the drivers seat, and the same basic location, looking up under the dash. They speak for themselves. I have checked, and it appears this transporter was never equiped with AC, factory or otherwise. One thing I failed to note was that it has POWER disc brakes. Now, the engine........I know that this rig should have a GD prefixed number on the mill. I believe it should be on the fan shroud. I cannot find it. I have NO doubt that this is the original engine, as all physical indicators are there. Someone who is in the know as to the whereabouts of this casting number please contact me, so that I can put this issue to rest. I realize that these engines last from 100K to 250K miles, depending on upkeep and use. All I can say is that this engine runs very strong, the clutch works wonderfully, as do the brakes. The tranny shifts perfectly, and makes no noises. The mill is dirty, and I could have cleaned it, and made it purdy, and said it was new, but I'm just not like that. Please call if you have any questions. Thanks
