Vehicle Detail
I recently purchased this 1970 Mercury Cougar, Eliminator clone as a daily driver back in September. Unfortunately, my priorities have changed and I need to sell off a few toys. This has a mean rebuilt 1970 351C 4V. Dyno tested for 350HP and 370lbs of torque. Brand new Holly 650 double pumper, Mallory Dual Unified distributor, Edelbrock performer manifold, etc. Oil pressure is great at 60-70psi. I recently installed new edelbrock rear shocks. New gas tank and new posi rear axle. The paint is a 10 footer. There is bubbling in several spots. The underneath floor has surface rust and several spots that need to be repaired. Torque boxes are rusty and should be cleaned up. Needs new headliner and some finishing touches on the interior. Seats are torn and need to be refinished. New stereo system that includes Pioneer head system, Pioneer amp, and new speakers. Questions, let me know. Thanks. I also have a video of the mean sounding engine running. On Feb-24-12 at 03:34:16 PST, seller added the following information: Thanks for all the questions. Keep them coming. So, everyone can see the same condition, here are some answers: 1. I've attached pics of underside rust. The spots where the paint is bubbling is quarter size spots (<10) where when they prepped the car for paint, they didn't prep it correctly. 2. The Dash Pad is a new overlay that was glued on..not the best alignment. The Headliner needs replaced--hanging currently. 3. Disc brakes on front. 4. Does the car run well or are there any mechanical problems? I just pulled it out of storage and charged the battery. Its started right up but then quit. Before auction ends, I'll see what the electrical problem is. When I bought the car, I put 30 day tags on it and drove it around for short trips--ran good, trans shifted fine, etc. I haven't had the time to go through it but previous owner put a lot of money into new parts. 5. When I bought the car, I was told the Engine was rebuilt .30 over and the the trans had been been rebuilt. If you want a video sent to you of the engine running, please send me your email address. The car is being sold as-is. The price is low for a quick sale. This would be a great starter project that is almost finished to drive around. I got a ton of thumbs up and people lookers when I drove it. Keep the questions coming! Good luck in the auction! On Feb-25-12 at 17:55:57 PST, seller added the following information: ATTENTION: Since pulling out the car from storage, the engine started right up, ran 3-4 minutes while warming up, then when the choke disengaged, the engine quit. Still turns over, but I'm not getting any spark. There is an electrical short somewhere. The car will sell during the auction. The reserve will be removed for the next bidder. Someone will get a good starter project at a great price! I also have the name of a shipper that I used to buy the car if anyone needs it for east coast delivery. Good luck!On Feb-27-12 at 03:50:14 PST, seller added the following information: As requested from potential buyers, here is a video if the car when it was running. For now, I'm still researching why I have an electrical short...i.e. power to distributor, but when it cranks, the power lead drops power which generates no spark. The car was an A/C car but no longer has any of the pulleys or condensor. For the torque boxes, they can be repaired and not replaced. Engine running in Sep: On Feb-28-12 at 14:52:13 PST, seller added the following information: **Update** I isolated the non-starting problem to the distributor. Steady 12V to Distributor, no spark. It has the Dual Unified Ignition distributor so you would need to replace it or install separates. Good luck on the remianing bids. I will help load onto the transport.
