Vehicle Detail
Super clean 1965 Plymouth Barracuda 318 V8, 3-speed automatic transmissionAllow me to tell you everything I can possibly tell you about this great car. I am the 2nd owner. I purchased this car from the (late) original owner's estate in Idaho approximately 8 years ago. I had the car shipped to California where it has essentially sat in my garage. In all candor, I've put probably 25 miles on this car since I bought it (about 20 of those in the past 2 weeks). I have the original signed pink slip from the previous owner. I never registered this car in Cali. I bought the Cuda as my first of what would be several 60's era muscle cars. I was always fond of the Valiant/Cuda style. I am super meticulous and wanted a car that was near perfect. And that's what this car is...near perfect. As it turns out, I just didn't get around to driving it. I am now at that point in life where I want to start getting rid of toys, not acquiring them. About the car... It was originally a 273, 2-barrel, 3-speed auto. The PO's family told me their father had the 273 replaced with a 1969 Plymouth 318 which was the workhorse motor of that era. It is not clear why he chose to replace the motor. The transmission is the original 3-speed. Mechanically, the Cuda is a 9. The motor starts quickly, idles well cold or warm (automatic choke), and runs cool. The transmission shifts smoothly and easily. I rebuilt the brake cylinders and (obviously) bled the brake system. She stops quite well on 4 wheel drums. I would say the sheet metal makes her a 15' car. The most glaring flaw is on the trunk lid. There is one 2" split in the paint which has not chipped. To the trained eye, one can see very small imperfections on the passenger side door (it's a 47 year old car) and a small imperfection on the driver's side rear pillar. The paint is the original color and would rate it at an 8. I believe it was repainted approximately 15 years ago. The repaint was a quality job. You can find no instances of over-spray anywhere. If you peel back the weather stripping around the windows, you can detect tiny specs of red paint which confirm a repaint. The paint shines and has the smallest imperfections when you put your face right up to it. I believe a skilled person with a buffer and quality rubbing compound could bring this paint up to 9. The interior is spectacular. It is original and in incredible shape. I'd give the interior a 9.5. There are no tears in the seats, the dash pad is perfect, the gauge cluster has just the usual signs of "sun exposure" but looks excellent. The door panels are fantastic. The fold down seat is perfect as is the headliner and carpet. I will say the carpet in the front floor pan area is slightly lighter shade from some sun exposure, but you can see for yourself from the pictures. The driver's side window regulator has one spot where it gets a bit snug, but the glass rolls up and down well. I didn't have the heart to pull the door panel to investigate, but it's perfectly serviceable as is now. Some grease would probably make it perfect. Electrically, everything works with the exception of the Tachometer. This is a disappointment to me, but I just couldn't find a good wiring diagram. The coil is not original and I believe there is a missing wire between the new coil and the tach. Electricity is not my forte. The glass is a 9.5. The huge rear window is free of fogging, chips, and is clear as, well, glass. It drives great. I get smiles, waves, and thumbs-up when I have tooled around the neighborhood.
