Vehicle Detail

This auction is for a 1984 Honda Civic CRX 1.3, 49-state version (as opposed to the California smog rules conforming version) with only 65,445 (as of February 18)) original miles. It is equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission. The car is Baltic Blue (Honda color code B-32) with silver and red trim. Included in the auction is a set of 4 barely used studded Vredestein Snow+ tires, sheepskin seat covers, Honda’s official service manual, and 2 new Fram oil filters. Please read the entire description before bidding. This is a 28-year-old car and the known defects are noted below. The 1984 Honda CRX 1.3 is a remarkable car because of its extraordinary light weight and superb mileage, exceeding mileage achieved by many current hybrids. Honda did everything it could to make the engine efficient, such as using only 2 piston rings to reduce internal engine friction. Besides being a hyper-mileage wonder, its light weight makes it an excellent candidate for a high-performance project. The following quote is from the MPG-O-Matic website: “The two-seat CRX debuted in the 1984 model year, equipped with a 60 horsepower 1342cc engine and a curb weight of just 1713 pounds. The initial EPA fuel economy estimates were nothing short of astounding at 51 city / 67 highway miles per gallon (MPG).” This car is one-owner and has always been garaged. The dash has no cracking. The seat covers were installed when the car was new, so the original upholstery is in superb condition. The oil was changed every 3,000 miles (service records were not saved) and the 65,445 (as of February 18, 2012 when these photos were taken) miles are original. It is in beautiful condition and reflects the care its owner gave it. In the last few months the following services have been performed: distributor, battery, and windshield wipers replaced. In late 2011 the carburetor was completely overhauled and the engine de-carbonized by Ivey Automotive in Hardy, AR. An emergency CB radio, new in the box, purchased in 1984 and never used is included. Usability of the radio is unknown and no guarantee is made for it. Car has original spare and jack (see picture). The spare set of Vredestein Snow+ 155SR 13 tires that are included in this auction have been driven just a few miles and are mounted on a spare set of wheels. This is not my car. I am selling this rare 1.3 version of the CRX for my father, who lives in the same city. He bought the car new from the Honda dealer in Jonesboro, AR. Known issues: The engine races when started before it warms up and settles down to about a 700 rpm idle speed. Owner believes, but does not know for a fact, that a broken thermovalve is keeping the automatic choke from working properly. Original battery mount has been replaced with a bungee strap. See pictures. Front tires are worn and need to be replaced. See picture. Un-pictured tire is more worn than pictured tire. Honda achieved it remarkable mileage with this car in part by making it super-light. To achieve it’s surprising 1,700 pound weight, Honda used plastic body panels, which tended to crack with age. The rest of the list details known body cracks and problems. Car had a couple of minor low-speed parking-lot accidents that needed a little repair work.Left front fender: 3 vertical cracks Driver’s side door: 2 cracks (noted with arrows in photo). Also it had a dent that was professionally repaired. That’s the smudged area in the grey part of the door. Driver’s side outside mirror: repaired with black screw. See picture Front cowl: replaced in 2011 after parking lot accident with new aftermarket cowl Driver’s side signal lens: replaced by one fashioned from 1990 Civic lens. It is cracked (see picture). Front bumper near lens is scratched. Left rear fender: horizontal crack in silver part of fender. (see photo) Rear: small dent under Honda nameplate. (see photo) Right side of bumper: scratches touched up with silver paint. (see photo) Passenger door has ding near handle (see photo) and crack in lower panel (see picture) Passenger rear fender silver portion has a repair with screws. (see photo) Right front fender: vertical crack. (see photo) If you have questions you can call me at (870)955-9268 between 10 AM and 8:00 PM central time.On Feb-26-12 at 11:45:22 PST, seller added the following information: I missed listing a defect. There is a 2" tear on the side vinyl panel on the left side of the driver's seat, by the seat adjustment lever. None of the pictures show this tear and I'm at my limit of pictures I can post.My apologies for the error.
