Up for bids is a highly modified 1998 Chevy Astro 4X4. Life for this mid sized van started out as a family haulin’ AWD van. ….That just wasn’t enough. The first mod was to lift the van four inches to get some bigger tires on so it can go to some more out of the way places. Next was the plow to clean up the snow. Then of course it needed to be a true four wheel drive so it got a 4X4 transfer case. From there it just became an obsession to see how far we could go and show the Jeep guys what’s up. In it’s final form it is by far one of the most setup off road vans ever made. It can go just about anywhere. Plus you can still drive it on regular roads. Below is a list of the mods as I can remember them. * 10 inches of lift from stock.* Will accept up to 35" tires with no issues. * Custom DHC rock rails. * Custom built DHC steel front bumper that also works as the winch and plow mount. * Custom hydraulic plow. * Custom skid plate for engine and trans. * Dana 60 and 44 front and rear diffs with 4:11 gears, posi and locking front hubs.* Alloy axle shafts and Detroit Trutrac up front. * Front sub frame modified for leaf springs. * Front sway bar disconnect. * On board air compressor for airing tires, tools, air horn, etc. with gauge. * On board hydraulics with connections front and rear. * Transmission cooler with fan and tem gauge. * Electric engine fan that can be turned off while going through water. * Front and rear power disc brakes. * New 27 gallon fuel tank. * CB system. * Hummer 17 inch alloy rims. There are many more mods but the list is too high to keep typing. The van itself has electric windows and door locks with a remote start with two remotes. The engine and transmission are the original 4.3 V6 and 4L60E with 160,000 miles. Has always started right up and goes. Everything on the van works and you can drive it home. The down sides of the van are as follows. It has no rear seats. Rust. It has a bit of it. Everything underneath has surface rust but nothing rusted through to stop thing from working. Rocker panels on the passenger side are toast. Most of the driver side rust was cut out and new panels welded in a couple years ago but still needs a little more. The drivers side window motor needs replaced. Takes a while to roll back up. Tires don’t have much tread left. The shifter on the column cracked at the gear. You have to manually move the shift cable. Hasn’t had an alignment in awhile. Other that that it is good to go and with the starting bid at $1500 you can’t go wrong. I have lost interest and it is just sitting here. It needs a new home so it doesn’t just sit and rot. I have lots of paperwork and extras that go with the van. Good luck bidding!
