Vehicle Detail

Very complete, original, and totally stock 1948 GMC 150 Deluxe half ton, long bed pickup truck. This truck has aged well over the years; it remains complete and unmodified. The body is particularly good. A previous owner began a cosmetic restoration on a very solid, near rust free truck some time ago that already had a high quality yellow and black respray. He did very little to the interior but started to repair the cab corners which had very minor rust. The repairs were done in metal and finished off with bondo. The bondo portion was never finished. All the cab corners need is for the bondo to be sanded and primered and they are done. The floorboards are solid except for some minor rust-through on the passenger side. I have detailed pics available that I'd be happy to send you that show these areas very clearly. All glass is flat and is in good shape other than a cracked passenger door window and two rock chips in the drivers side windshield. Each front fender has a dent (passenger side looks much worse than it is) but other than that, this truck has a really great body. And it even has the original wood in the bed. Re the interior, I think the photos speak for themselves. It's obviously aged well. The upholstery is in great shape, it still has the original headliner, and the dash is great other than it's missing the metal radio cover. The gauges work although the speedo fluctuates at speed. The left gauge pod appears to have been rebuilt at some point. Headlights work as do three of the four blinker lights and the heater. Wipers work but they're the original vacuum type. If you are going for originality and patina, I'd probably do nothing to the interior other than install a door panel in the passenger door to match the driver side. The running gear is in great shape, particularly the engine. It's the original GMC (not Chevy... they're different) Stovebolt Six that has recently been rebuilt. It runs very well and the transmission shifts very well. The original differential is attached to the original four speed transmission via a torque tube. Reverse is to the far left and down. The electrical is all still 6 Volt and it has a new starter and battery. The exhaust system is also new. This truck starts, runs, accelerates, drives, turns and stops very well, especially considering it's never been restored and is 64 years old. The radial tires definitely contribute to its drive-ability. While it obviously lacks PS/PB, it's a great candidate for a daily driver. This is a very cool truck... probably way too cool and complete and original to hot rod (unless all you do is bolt-on mods so it can easily be returned to stock). It's a great candidate as-is to be a daily driver. And if you are so inclined, it's also a great candidate for a resto because it's so complete, original, and solid. BTW-The big surprise this year at all the big car auctions in Scottsdale, AZ was the premiums being paid for vintage trucks. Who knows, it could also turn out to be a great investment. The truck is located in the dry, desert climate of St. George, UT (about 100 miles north of Las Vegas). My name is Chris and I'd be happy to answer your questions. Please call me at 435-669-1470. Thanks for your interest.
