Vehicle Detail
What I have here is a rust-free, completely stock, very well-maintained 1950 GMC 100 Deluxe short bed half-ton pickup truck. Half-ton short bed Advanced Design GMC/Chevy pickup trucks from Late 1947 to Early 1955 are the Holy Grail of vintage trucks and this one is incredible, particularly from a sheet metal and running gear perspective. The running gear consists of the original GMC Stovebolt 6 (228CID I believe) mated to the original 4 speed manual transmission running to the original rear differential via a torque tube. And it runs and drives wonderfully. The engine is tight and strong with no unusual noises, and the tranny shifts great. It has a newer coil and starter as well (6 volt) . The engine compartment is a well-preserved thing of beauty with just the right amount of patina. Headlights and horn both work as do the gauges and wipers. I drive it around town and I'm so impressed by how well this truck has aged. It has obviously been loved over the years. The interior was disassembled very professionally at some point. The windows, gauges, knobs, seat, and doors were all removed and the interior resprayed to a high standard. It was then professionally reassembled with new windshield moldings and door-glass felt and dashboard trim. The seat upholstery is still in good shape and NOS sound deadening material has been attached to the floorboard. The driver side window crank has been installed since the photos were taken. There is no rust anywhere in the interior nor has there ever been any. The condition of the body is incredible. There is one quarter-sized hole in the passenger side inner fender well... that's it (see pics). No rust anywhere else. All four cab corners are rock solid and have been that way since it left the factory. The doors are original, the exteriors were just prepped for paint when they were removed. This truck was a labor of love for an elderly gentleman who fell upon hard times. The bondo you see is no more than a fraction of an inch thick anywhere and was only done to make a great body perfect prior to painting. He just never got that far. NOS windshield wipers have been installed since the pics were taken. Again, this truck runs and drives great. It starts, runs, accelerates, shifts, drives, turns, brakes and stops just the way it should. The only deviation from stock are the chrome rims, lug nuts and radial tires which really improve its drive-ability and, in my opinion, its appearance. However, install some stock rims and bias-ply tires and it would be completely stock. This is obviously an incredible find. It's basically a cosmetic restoration in process on a very well-preserved, rust-free, mechanically excellent, original truck. I sure hope it finds its way to someone who appreciates it's condition and wants to enjoy it as is or take it to the next level. If you are interested, I also have tons of additional pics I'd be happy to send you. Please send me your email address and I'll forward them. Also, please call me so I can answer your questions. My name is Chris and I can always be reached at 435-669-1470. The truck is located in the dry, desert community of St. George, UT (about 100 miles north of Las Vegas, NV). Thanks for your interest.
