1951 Ford Custom Convertible body-off restoration. No stones left unturned. I will start the description with the outside of the car. As you can see from the pictures, the outside of the car is fantastic. Sheridan Blue accented by the all new chrome grille, bumpers, stainless trim and rear taillight spears makes this a serious looker. The body ended up on a rotisserie, sand-blasted, primed and painted inside and out. The paint code numbers were for Sheridan Blue. Paint used was “PPG Concept Paint”. A beautiful shade of blue. The frame succumbed to the same treatment as the body. All 4 wheel drums were turned, 4 new wheel cylinders, re-built master cylinder and all new steel and flex brake lines. Engine newly rebuilt bored 30,000, new pistons and rings, all new bearings, re-ground crankshaft, new timing gears, complete new valve train, new oil pump, a rebuilt carburetor, re-built fuel pump, re-built water pumps, new center pilot bearing, new clutch disc, new pressure plate and throwout bearing, new fan and generator belts, radiator cleaned and tested, generator rebuilt, new thermostats, Ford script hoses to engine with original type hose clamps. Re-built distributor, new plugs and wires and new battery. The ’51 comes with a smooth shifting OVERDRIVE TRANSMISSION. Great for turnpike cruising. The ’51 also has a complete “made in USA” new wiring harness, (has original Ford color coding). The indicated mileage on the speedometer is 97,669. Upon completion of the total restoration the car has in real time about 375 miles. The interior is all new LeBaron Bonney leather with a Haatz top black with red piping. Glass all new, new floor mats, heater and defroster blowing hot air, new dual exhaust, “Red Headers” and “Smitty’s Mello Tone Mufflers”. The gauge cluster and speedometer all working along with the interior courtesy lights. Operational directional lights. Clock works. The 9 tube Hi Fidelity radio works great. Lets talk about the top. It has all new window weatherstrips, new 6/V pump, all new hydraulic. Lines and new hydraulic. Cylinders. All ready for trouble free summer driving. I did not have enough room for the picture of the open trunk and I’m sure I left out a few other things and this is one of them. The title: Maine has a law that after so many years cars do not have to have a title. If the car is too old to be titled you use the registration of the vehicle for the title. The registration will be signed over to you to give you proof that the car was on the road in Maine. The 3-ribbed fender skirts were bought from LeBaron Bonney. They are not painted. They were left behind when the car was being painted. They will try to get these painted before the auction closes.
