Vehicle Detail
Great 1968 International 1200C Camper Special with the factory 266 V-8 and T-98 4 Speed manual transmission running through a Dana 60 rear differential. AND the rare Factory AC (not hooked up but all there). This truck is totally awesome. What makes International's up to 1968 so cool is that since their light truck division was poorly funded at the time (before disappearing completely), they produced this body style from 1957 to 1968. In an era of square body trucks (Fords first one was in 1957, Chevy/GMC in 1960, Dodge in 1961, Studebaker in 1960), International kept plugging along with their vintage round body truck until 1968! Plus they were built like tanks... ask an owner. They were tough, simple, and lasted forever. This one is definitely the last of a breed. The running gear is simple and bulletproof. V-8/4 Speed/Dana 60 with a basic I-Beam front axle and no Power Steering or Power Brakes. Since the tires are narrow, it's really very easy to drive without PS/PB. In fact, the previous owner used it to haul his slide-in camper. Other than the factory air, you can't get any more basic than that. And this one runs and drives great. It starts, runs, accelerates, steers, turns and stops just the way its supposed to. It's also very comfortable at freeway speeds. The front tires are pretty new and the rear Mud & Snow tires are very new. Throw some sand bags in the bed for traction and you can go almost anywhere. I used it as a farm truck to haul produce through the Summer and Fall and it proved very stout and reliable (pics were taken before I installed mirrors). The prior owner told me he had the engine rebuilt but he couldn't find the paperwork. It sure looks and runs like it has a fresh motor. Other than fluids, all I've ever had to do is install a new fuel pump and put in a new battery. The interior is solid and basic as well. The seat has been freshly upholstered. The dash is all there and unbutchered although it shows its age with some sun fading/cracking. The roof, floors, and doors are just painted metal (some factory and some touched up). Like a truck should be, it's utilitarian and stark. The exterior has had one ancient respray in 43 years in the original beige with some poorly matching recent rattle can work on one fender. The metal of the bed (tailgate is missing), rear fenders, running boards, and cab are in great, original shape. The front inner and outer fenders have had some minor rust repair in the past but it's nothing major. This truck spent most of it's life in the dry climate of Southern Nevada so it's aged well. Personally, I'd leave it as is to preserve the patina. Like I said, this is a totally awesome truck, definitely the last of a breed. It's what a truck should be... basic, simple, utilitarian, and with just the right amount of rough edges from use. Plus it's an International so maintained right it will serve you forever. Also, I have tons of additional pics. Please send me your email address and I'll get them to you. And I'd be happy to answer your questions. My name is Chris and I can always be reached at 435-669-1470. The truck is located about 100 miles north of Las Vegas in St. George, UT. Thanks for your interest.
