Classic and rare! 1956 Mercury Custom station wagon! WOW! It's been my daily driver for over 10 years! Rebuilt 312 Y-block (55-57' T-Birds used these!) done 10 years ago. Installed 68' Ford C-4 auto tranny to replace old and worn Merc-o-Matic 2 spd. Rebuilt Dana 44 5 years ago,heavy duty custom made springs, newer brake system (still drums) dual master installed 6 years ago. New tires, rebuilt carberator (changed to an Autolite 4100 bult by Pony carb in New Mexico) Custom made 3 core radiator. Factory dual exhaust. All gauges work! Installed two speed wiper motor 5 years ago, but it quit working last week!! Rats. Don't know why. Has cancer along tailgate and bottoms of doors, runs great! No headliner as I had the roof repainted and treated for rust 8 years ago. Easy to get one, for about $500-750 online. Windshield has a 4 inch crack on the drivers side, was stopped by dremel tool trick. Rest of glass is good. Cruises at 75. Killer heater! Original interior. Have original (worn) owners manual and a few extra parts) Oil and fluids changed regulary and installed a K/N cleanable filter. Taken out of state a few times and never had a problem! Changed accelerator to a cable system for smoother operation. MUST SELL! I NEED to get a newer vehicle and I have no time or $$$ to finish this really cool wagon! I will miss it greatly but hope it goes to a good home! Only 8500 of the Custom wagons were built for 56'. Wagon is for sale locally so auction may end early! SERIOUS BIDDERS THIS TIME PLEASE! I have had this thing on here 4 times and had so many flakes, you could fill a ten story cereal box and still spill over the top! You must arrange to pick up vehicle if out of state. On Nov-27-11 at 20:37:20 PST, seller added the following information: Even though the wagon is a daily driver, I recommend if you are long distance, trailering it back. I am used to it's quirks, but it does pull to the right when braking, and as I mentioned the wiper motor just quit, so if it starts to rain, it wouldn't be too fun! I just started having a hesitation issue with it last week. I changed the spark plugs,fuel filter,cleaned out the carb and fuel tank. (There was some sediment but NO RUST, as I had it RENU-ed and that takes care of the rust in tank issues of a 50+ year old car) Also installed a new ignition coil. I hope this takes care of the hesitation issue. I am sure it's not a life or death thing, she just needs someone to fine tune her! But I still recommend just to be on the safe side, putting it on a car trailer. She's definetly worth restoring!
