Vehicle Detail
1980 Triumph Spitfire with 21,644 on the clock. I've never been certain whether or not the odometer has rolled around once or not, but I was told by the original owner it hadn't. I've had the car for several years with plans to restore it fully. Fast forward with 2 kids, and the number of toys that can consumer my time has dwindled; hence this auction. The car runs well, I've rebuilt the carburetur and the (rather expensive) water choke, which functions as it should. The original problematic Lucas Opus distributor was replaced with an earlier model, and I installed a Pertronix. It starts easily. The clutch and transmission are fine, with a newer clutch master. Shifts smoothly in/out of all gears. The front suspension has been overhauled with new shocks, new ball joints, new tie rods, new calipers/pads, new brake hoses, and new bearings/seals. The tires have 200 miles on them. The rear suspension has new shocks but will need new u-joints (at the axles) because you hear a clunking noise when you back up, which is worn out joints in the axel shafts. The alternator is new, along with several of the emissions components such as the anti run-on valve. All gauges and lights work, as well as the heater and blower motor. Wipers work; I believe there is an issue with the washer pump which I will work on prior to sale. The top is original with a rip below the quarter window (see pic). It might be repairable, since the rest of the top is in good condition. The top boot was probably never used, and is included. Seats are in good shape and have the desirable "houndstooth" pattern; they just need a good cleaning. Carpet and door panels, and all door rubber should be replaced. Has an AM/FM radio which works well. Car is virtually free of rust; only rust spots are on the body and are very small. No soft metal, these will grind right out. Glass is good. Muffler is fairly new, and I do hear a small exhaust leak coming from somewhere under the car, other than the muffler. Minor and not really noticeable. Paint is ok, just needs a good buffing but there is a very small dent on the side which you would want to fix and repaint the car Overall, this is a quick project car for someone to finish. Due to the time it has spent not being driven, I do not want the buyer planning to drive it home. Bring a trailer or have it shipped. Brakes are hydraulic and because the car has been sitting, you need to take the time to go through it before getting behind the wheel. Payment is expected in the form of CASH. Car is currently located in Torrington, CT. Please contact me FIRST before you bid if you have any questions. If you plan to have the car shipped, you must handle ALL the arrangements. *** The State of Connecticut does not issue titles on vehicles older than 1981. You will receive a bill of sale and copy of the current registration, and that is all you will need to register the car. You can verify this by visiting the CT DMV website. *** Thanks for looking and bid with confidence. On Oct-23-11 at 19:22:51 PDT, seller added the following information: Forgot to mention - the bushings in the front end were all replaced as well. Also, the previous owner had the radiator boiled out and painted.
