Vehicle Detail
1989 Jeep Wrangler, 5 Speed Manual Transmission, 4.2 liter inline six. 20 Gallon tank. Overall very nice condition for it's age. Paint shiny and not oxidized, clear coat is undamaged. There is no rust on any panels and the frame is clean and not rusty. Interior is complete and pretty clean, there are no tears, has original carpets, seats, even floor mats. Vehicle runs good, engine starts and idles smoothly at 750 RPM. Has good oil pressure, temp and alternator readings. 4WD works, I have done my best to photograph all the gauges both running at highway speed and idling so you can judge for yourself. Includes hardtop with removable sunroof, Matching Tan Bestop Soft top and Tan bikini top. Everything works, except for clock, all lighting on gauges, even the the door jam switches for the courtesy lights. No check engine or warning lights, turn signals hazards, horn etc all work. Brakes don't make noises. Door locks work, has original cigarette lighter and owners manual. Went into a high pressure carwash on 9/22 and no water came in whatsoever. I bought this vehicle from a co-worker who's in-laws used it as a summer vehicle at a beach house. After having issues with the carb they parked in the garage for approximately 5 years, I bought in the spring and brought it back in to driving shape. To my knowledge it has been garaged it whole life including during my time owning it. While the odometer shows 119k, the true mileage is unknown and the title will reflect this. The previous owner stated the speedometer cable broke and was quickly fixed but he felt compelled to disclose this, based on the vehicle condition I highly doubt there is a significant discrepancy. Following is a list of work done. Replaced Carter Carb with Motorcraft Unit. Upgraded Distributor Upgraded Coil, Plugs and Wires Nutter BypassNew BatteryNew Ignition Control Module New Rear Main Seal (Does not leak a drop of oil, note the pictures are on a paver driveway) New Valve cover Gasket New Temp Sensor New Fuel Pump New Fuel Filter Replaced Vacuum and Cooling Hoses New Thermostat Full Exhaust from manifold back including new Cat, all Walker and Magniflow parts. New Brake Pads New Belts New Fog Lights New Head Lights Used Windshield Frame and Glass New Hood Latches New Wiper Blades New Weather Stripping including windshield cowl Patched two small (quarter sized) holes in the floor by welding new steel in. Added courtesy light in rollbar (really useful with roof off) New Sony Stereo with Bluetooth Phone, A2DP and Aux in. New Front Speakers Added rear speakers, 6x9s in aftermarket boxes that tuck behind the roll bar add cup holders and look factory. Vehicle is inspected in NJ until 4/2013. However I have removed emissions equipment and cannot guarantee it will get though your state's inspection. I will include the original carb and all other parts removed. I will also include a Haynes service manual. Finally, keep in mind this Jeep is 22 years old, the condition is good for it's age, and good for a Jeep which are often are abused. It is not flawless. Paint may look good in photographs or from a few feet away but up close there are plenty of blemishes, dings scratches, rock chips, etc. Same thing with the interior, pretty clean with no tears and no strange smells or big stains, but not flawless. I drove the Jeep with the soft top off all summer, down to the shore and on hiking trips to upstate New York, I think it is a lot of fun to drive and gets about 16 mpg in mixed city highway driving. I am only selling it because I have two other cars including an International Scout I just finished restoring and the cost of storing and insurance does not justify keeping the Jeep. Please do not hesitate ask any questions. Remember your bid is a contract to buy, do not bid unless you are prepared to go through with a transaction. To my knowledge no major components have been rebuilt or replaced, as with any vehicle of this vintage and mileage I would expect the entire drive line is at the dusk of its life. Please keep in mind I do not know which parts will last another 1 mile or 100,000 miles. The vehicle is being being sold as is where is. Please do your research into common ailments and repair costs on this model and expect to face some of them, the good news is that parts and service are relatively plentiful and cheap on Wranglers. While I am confident in this Jeep and drive it almost every day, I don't want some one buying this with unrealistic expectations of cheap reliable trouble free motoring. There are far better options than a Wrangler for that, few that are as fun.
