Vehicle Detail
For sale here is my 1972 BMW 2002. It is currently registered with the historic 2002 registry and with the BMW CCA. Last summer I purchased this car from the 1972 origional owner. When I found it, the BMW was buried in a garage for the last 18 years and was basically a "barn find" covered in dust, but completely origional and everything in place. Over the past year, I have brought the car back to life. I performed an extensive tune-up which made the car run very well. I had the brake lines professionally remade and the tires replaced with period-correct Vredestein HR-13s. Doing this allows the car to run and drive very well. This 2002 has a Weber 36-32 carb conversion on it which gives it an extra 25hp bringing the total to 125hp. (Keep in mind this car only weighs something around 2,200 pounds). This is mated to a 4-speed manual gearbox--this car really pulls hard when the pedal is floored. Admittedly, the shift linkage is a little loose, but the lever easily finds its gears. The wheels have been lightly restored, meaning the petina has been left on the back sides of the wheels while the front sides have been retouched with BMW silver wheel paint, and the wheel covers have been restored. I replaced the thermostat and the accompanying hoses. I further imported and installed a new hood silencer pad from BMW Mobile Tradition to cosmetically and historically correctly complete the inside of the hood. During my ownership of this car, I have only been working on mechanically restoring the car, leaving the origionality of the cosmetics mainly untouched. It does have rust on both doors and on the lower rocker panels--which is typical for this car. The frame rails do have some rust primarlily on the left front side. Otherwise, apart from some light surface rust on the left A-pillar and rust in the spare tire compartment, this car is very solid and very fun to drive--and all the electronics and gauges still work (except for a burnt out front parking light). The interior is totally origional and totally complete (except for a missing cigarette lighter) the seats could use a light touch up. When researching the history of the car, I discovered that it was built in 1971, but sold as a 1972 model year. It does have factory seat belts which seem somewhat rare for this car (these are stamped with a 1971 production date). This car does have origional books and tools which will be included in the sale. (There are a bunch of 1970s era Standard Oil U.S. maps I found in the seat pockets which I'll throw in to add to the nostalgia of this iconic car). I am selling this car because my European car collection has grown recently, and I need the garage space for a different car. I drove the car less than 1,000 miles in the last year and currently only drive it to classic car shows. I usually take the car out of the garage to wax it, then put it back inside or take it to a BMW CCA event. In short, I do not drive the car enough to justify keeping it. The pictures were taken at a BMW CCA event at a local BMW dealer at which the car was placed inside the showroom. This was the same dealer where the car was sold new in 1972. I am asking $2,500 for this 2002, but I am flexible with this price. I have reciepts which will justify this number, but I will gladly hear any offers. Please note, this car is being sold "as-is." Feel free to email me at schul254@uwm.edu or call me at (414) 795-2093 if you have any questions or want more pictures. If you pay the shipping, I will gladly assist with any necessary shipping details. ( I have a great shipping agent whom I use for my vehicle transportation which I can pass on to you should you need this assistance). Or, if you are in the Milwaukee/Brookfield area, please call for an appointment to see the car. I highly suggest driving my 2002--I'm sure you will enjoy it!
