Vehicle Detail
For sale is a 1997 Mercedes Benz C280 sport. I am the 3rd owner of this vehicle, I purchased it on 9/27/2004 with 105051 miles on it. It has been well maintained for the near 100K miles I have driven it, but has some issues as stated below. The car runs great, always starts right up, idles and accelerates smoothly. Transmission shifts perfect with no issues, transmission fluid and filter has been changed every 100k miles. Body condition is good, no accidents, no dents, a few small rust spots are staring to appear, see in pictures. Paint clear coat is peeling, see more info below. Interior is in great condition. Sport package includes factory carbon fiber dash kit which is very sharp looking. Black leather shows some light wear on the drivers seat, but no rips or tears. Nothing broken, is solid with no squeaks or rattles as a Mercedes interior should be. Non-smoker. Dual power seats, power mirrors, power windows, power trunk release, power rear headrest releases, power sunroof, everything works. Recent maintenance: New front Bilstein shocks replaced in 2008Transmission fluid changed at 100K miles and Just recently at 200K miles. MAF sensor may be going bad. Check engine light went on last year, code was complaining MAF was bad. I reset light and it has not come back on. I didn't notice any issues with car when MAF check engine light was on.New ignition coils and spark plugs / wires replaced in 2009.Vehicle currently has winter tires on it, purchased in 2009. Tires are in great shape with less than 20k miles on them. These are the only tires I have for the vehicle. A few of them seem to have small leaks, tires were low after a few weeks of sitting. Oil changed every 7K miles as Mercedes recommends, Mobil1 synthetic 0W40.All brake components replaced within past 2 years, but discs are rusty. See notes below.New passenger side glass headlamp in 2008. Issues:Head gasket leak. There has been a head gasket leak for the past few years. It has leaked a small amount of oil, I have had to add about a quart of additional oil about every 2000 - 3000 miles. The engine is not burning the oil, it is leaking out of the gasket near the front of the engine. Paint issues. The clear coat has been peeling all over the vehicle. The hood, trunk, and roof of the vehicle has no clear coat remaining. See pictures for where you can see the clear coat peeling. Besides clear coat, paint is in good condition. Brakes. Front and rear discs were replaced in 2008, front pads in 2009 and rear pads about 6 months ago. But since the car has been sitting for 4 months, the discs have a layer of rust on them. I drove it around to scrape some of the rust off and I still felt a little pedal movement from the brakes. With more driving they may be okay. Front windshield has a crack which runs across the bottom portion of the windshield. Minor rust spots are appearing on left and right doors near trim and around rear trunk lock. Overall vehicle body is in good condition with no other rust. See pictures for spots. Radio works, but display is hard to read and a few buttons are falling loose. Washer fluid tank leaks fluid, rubber grommet near pump needs to be replaced. A/C as far as I know is still charged and in good working condition, but a year ago the A/C would no longer turn on. The 'Economy' indicator on the climate control is stuck on which according the Mercedes service manual indicates a bad temp sensor. This may be the only issue. Headliner is a little loose on sunroof panel. Some 3m spray glue can easily fix. Drive it home and I'm sure it will run for quite some time as-is. You will want to get the head gasket replaced. This car has been extremely reliable for me and has never had any major issue that has left me stranded. The head gasket issue should really be repaired, if it is repaired I feel this car would be very reliable for a long time. Not to mention is has some of the most comfortable seats in any car I have owned.
