Vehicle Detail

I am selling my 1978 Bandit Trans Am. This will be a NO RESERVE auction. I expect this car to bring a good price and it is not a cheap car. I urge you to have this vehicle looked at by a third party if you do not feel comfortable bidding based on me as a sellers listing description. I will tell you a little about me before we get to the car. I have purchased a few vehicles through Ebay listings. The first vehicle I purchased I learned my lessons. I did not ask many questions and the add lacked detail. So I ended up feeling tricked and the purchase was a bad experience. Since then I always ask lots of questions and look for adds that have detail. I have sold vehicles through Ebay as well and I put a ton of detail into the add so that a person will likely feel comfortable when they are bidding. I have a lot of photographs available and if you would more please let me know and I will send them to your email. I have never figured out how people load 100 photographs on Ebay as I can only get 24 to load. I am not a dealer. I do love vehicles and have had quite a few in my life. This car is my personal car and it will hurt to see it go. This was a dream car of mine and it was taken well care of. I have had people purchase a car from me after having a third party look it over and they felt I was very truthful in my listings. I am old fashioned and have a high integrity. Please read the whole listing carefully before asking questions. My phone number will be available to serious buyers if they want to talk to me over the phone and get a walk around of the vehicle. My phone number is not available to people trying to work a deal off of Ebay. This vehicle is sold on Ebay to protect you and me. Too many scams and deadbeats out in the world to just start working deals without some type of protection. This is a serious auction and I expect the buyer to pay for this vehicle. The reason I am selling is because we are now expecting our second child and we are looking to build a house next year. We follow the Dave Ramsey plan and pay for everything in cash. Even though this was a dream car of mine, I have a 1970 Oldsmobile 442 Convertible that was my fathers car before I got it and that car needs to be restored. I dont see me being able to keep this Trans Am and still able to put the money into the 442. So the sentimental car stays. This Trans Am has some sentimental value too as I did a lot of the work on it and my wife and I used it in our wedding. But my fathers car was passed down to me and I want it restored soon. This Trans Am will be available for viewing if you live close or want someone else to look at it. However, I will not likely offer to drive it to a location as I want no chance after listing it that damage would occur. Enough about me and on to the vehicle. I purchased this car about 6 years ago. I found it here in Rapid City locally. It needed a restoration but was very complete. I have researched this vehicle and it is a 1 of 68 produced in the Van Nuys, California plant. This is NOT a clone. This is a true Y84 W72 car. This is a numbers matching car. I have PHS documentation on the car. I found the original build sheet in the seat cushions of the car. This car was ordered and delivered here in Rapid City and has spent its life here. This has the very desireable CC1 GM Fisher T-Tops. These were the larger tops. This car was restored and driven very very little. It is still in great shape. I had a lot of detail work done to it in the last couple weeks. The resto was 6 years ago and there was some detail work needed to bring it back to its current condition from 6 years of light use. This car will do very well in local car shows. It will need very little to be fantastic. It is solid and turns heads every where. This is one of the most recognizeable cars ever produced. To find a true numbers matching Bandit TA these days is very hard. If you have been looking for an affordable one, I urge you to research this one and you will see it is rare. The drivetrain on this car is in great shape. This is the Pontiac 6.6 litre 400 cu in engine. This is not the Olds 403. This is the original motor to this car. The numbers match. It runs fantastic and has lots of power. It starts up instantly. It has the rumble that gives the shaker hood its shake. The engine number is 28L130662 X7. The heads are 6X-4 K237 (Nov. 23 1977). The Carb is 17058226/ 3047 (Pontiac, Federal Emissions; Oct 31, 1977). The exhaust manifolds are H017 (August 1, 1977). The intake is not original but is a 4bbl performer intake. The tranny case is 28L130662. The rearend is PX G80 (3.23 Posi). These are all correct for the car and original to the car. The motor is great. It does not smoke and it does not leak. It does not overheat. It needs nothing. I do not race this car but I do occasionaly get on it. It gets up and moves this car. This was not abused since the restoration. The tranny is the TH350 and needs nothing. It shifts fast and firm. The tranny has no issues and no leaks. The rearend is the Posi 3.23. There is no grinding, bucking or odd noises. The rearend is tight. This is a rather short description of the running gear since it has no issues and has had very few miles put on them since the restoration. My guess would be easily less then 2500 miles. Just had a tune up and runs fantastic. All fluids are good. The brakes are all in good shape and it stops straight. The tires are virtually new and have tons of tread. Rear tires at 265/50/15 and fronts are 235/60/15. This looks fantastic. The wheels are in great shape but were painted a solid gold instead of the two tone. I think it looks great but it is not absolutely correct. You may choose to get the silver highlights done yourself. The center caps are very nice. The rear tires are not bald because I dont smoke the tires. This is a well cared for car. The suspension on the car is good. It sits very level. It has the RTS (Radial Tuned Suspension) It flat out handles very well. It is stiff and you can feel the road in the seat of your pants but it handles very well. The engine compartment is as you can see in very nice shape. This is an Air Conditioned car but the compressor is missing. It was missing when I found it and I just never got around to putting it in. The engine paint is new. The car shows very nice when you open the hood. It has a new battery. The engine compartment is clean of excess wires. It looks fantastic. This car was ordered from the factory with an engine block heater which is still there and works. No, I dont and didnt drive it in the snow. I just replaced the wiper motor and washer. It works great. This is a dual exhaust car. It is not equiped with Cats. It has very nice dual tips. The exhaust is in great shape. The radiator does not leak and it works just as it should. Belts and hoses are good. The exterior of the car shows very nice. This is a 6 year old paint job but it has very few miles on it and was stored in a storage unit. There is no rust. The body and paint was done by a local long time hot rod paint guy. This was one of the last cars he painted before Cancer took his life. He has done many many great cars in this area. His name was Bob Beatty. The body is straight. There are no dents or dings on the car. No door dings. The paint has some minor cracking to the flexible bumpers but it still shows very nice. I live on a gravel road and drive slowly but still there were some rock chips that needed attention. This was fixed in the last several weeks. The paint is nice and shines very well but again it is 6 years old and has minor imperfections. It is not a 6 year old hard traveled paint job. This is a quality 6 year old finish. All of the panels line up very nice. The doors close great and do not sag. And these are heavy doors! The trunk closes good. The fender flares are all nice with one having a small crack at the top which is hard to see but it is there. The grills are in great shape with no breaks and no cracks. The inner fenders are nice. The floors are solid. The trunk floor is in great shape. The mirrors are in nice shape. The bird emblems are nice. The large bird is not as gold as it was 6 years ago but it shows great. There are no tears to it and it looks nice. The pin stripes are nice with some slight wear. Looks very good though. The fender vents are nice. The spoiler is nice. All of the light lenses are in great shape with no cracks. There are no cracks in any of the windows. This is a Rear Defrost optioned car. I honestly do not know if it works. The light comes on on the dash when you push it but it never sat in the snow. The window trim is in very nice shape. The door handles are nice. I had a window tint professionaly done. There is one area of slight wear on the driver window about the size of a dime. The window felts and rubber seals for the windows are in great shape. There is not very much wind noise in this car. It has new wipers blades. This has the remote mirrors which work as they should. The T-tops seal up nice. The T-Top rubber was new. The T-Top glass is in fantastic shape. The lower air dam under the front of the car has a chip on the driver side which can not be seen unless you get down on your hands and knees but it is there. It is the size of a nickle. Overall this vehicle looks fantastic with normal imperfections for a well done rarely driven 6 year old paint job. This has the gold headlight bezels and gold hood emblem. The trunk is in great shape. This has the original spare tire and filler tube. I have the jack and lug wrench. When you open the trunk all you have to do is turn the key and the trunk pops up by itself (springs are strong). The underside of the car was painted 6 years ago but the road debri and gravel road has chiped some of it away. The interior of this car is fantastic. Nearly everything was replaced. It has new carpet and sound deadener. New seats and cushions. No tears. The door panels are new as are the arm rests. The windows roll up and down nice. The center console is nice. The dash has cracks. When I restored the car they had not come out with the reproduced dash yet. They are now available. There is also a vinyl dash cover available but I did not want to cover up and hide the cracks. It is still soft and shines nice and might be able to be repaired by an upholstery shop without removing the dash. The dash inserts are nice. The trim rings are nice. Yes it does have a cigarette lighter eventhough it is not pictured. I just never used it since I dont smoke. The tach works. The speedo works. The Volt meter, temp and gas gauge works. The oil pressure does not work. I had the oil pressure tested in the last several weeks and it is still great. There are no worries there at all. The heater works. Nice gold dash. The steering wheel is nice with minor wear to the rubber from years of driving but it is not bad at all. The steering wheel is nice gold with the gold button. Steering column is nice. Turn signals work good. This has a tilt steering column. Gas and brake pedels are nice. The center console lid is nice and the inside is also nice. This does have an aftermarket professionaly installed stereo. No giant bass just good music. The glove box is nice. The kick panels are nice. The headliner and sun visors are new. The seatbelts are nice. The rear package tray is new. The interior lights work. All plastic and vinyl is very nice. I keep using nice as a description but really is looks great inside. The door sills are very nice. If you fix the dash pad then you are pretty much a perfect car inside. This has the original T-Top bags and they are in fantastic shape. The rear view mirror is nice. The shifter is nice with the gold button. The seatbacks are great. Some of the items were NOS items and some were replacement restoration parts. These are all high quality items. The seats have great support. This is a fun fun car to drive around in and it is very comfortable. The seats have good side support. It tracks straight down the road. I had a car alarm installed on it. This was an 8 Track tape optioned car but it is long gone. This is not a from the show room car but it is very very nice. If you are looking for a real car and not a clone this is it. This was restored and driven on nice days and to car shows. I am not a trailer queen car owner as I like to drive them. It is your decission but I would put my money into a true car and not a clone. You can probably get a 0 mile clone restored car for the price of this real Bandit car since this is an older restoration but those will go down in value as this only continues to go up in value. And to be able to say it is 1 of 68 made is kinda cool. The only other 1978 Bandit that was rarer was the Manual trans car from Van Nuys and there were only 20 of them. I never researched how rare of the 68 made this actually is, but it is a northern car so it had some odd options like the rear defrost, block heater and AC to include a tilt steering wheel and am/fm 8 track. Very fun car. I would trust this car to drive wherever you wanted to go. You could fly in and drive it home or ship it as well. Rapid City is a beautiful place to visit. I will help with making it available to a shipper if you so desire. However, I will not locate shippers or get quotes for you. I could likely get it to Sioux Falls SD for a fee if the timing is right and it would help get it closer to you. This is a NO RESERVE auction. You win and you buy it. I do not want to list it over and over because of deadbeats. If you are new to Ebay then I would like to be contacted before you bid. I will not make second offers. This should be fun for all involved. Why am I listing it as no reserve? I have watched these cars on Ebay for a while and I am confident it will bring a fair price. I am starting the bid at 15000.00 to keep non serious buyers from making silly bids. This will ensure you are bidding against others who are serious about buying and not just someone sitting in front of their computer in their PJ's driving prices up for fun. Again, I have many photos of this car that are not in the listing. Please have your finances in order PRIOR to bidding. I dont want to hear about a bank not giving a loan out. This cost me money and time and it keeps the car from going to people who are serious. I expect the Deposit right away. The title is free and clear. The car is ready to go. Please have fun with the auction. Keep in mind. I have all photos of the numbers for the motor, tranny, carb, heads, exhaust, PHS documentation and original build sheet. I figured photos of the car would look better in the auction and if you want to see documentation you may send me a mesg. for the rest of the photographs. I got a shutterfly page up and running so please look at those photographs too. The under car photos dont show as good as the car really is since it has the dirt from my gravel road. Surface rust under the car only. Also the wheels are 7" up front and 8" in the rear. This is how I bought it and I liked the look so I never changed it. I know it is not correct though. 1978pontiactransam.shutterfly.com Just go to your address field on your computer and type in 1978pontiactransam.shutterfly.com and it should take you right to it.
